Museum. It presents the activities of the Community Committee for the Rebuilding of
the Castle and Celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Liberation of Malbork – and
subsequently the Community Committee for the Rebuilding of the Castle – which
focused on developing and coordinating works to preserve and renovate the castle
along with creating appropriate conditions for the growth of tourism in Malbork.
Additionally, it had the temporary mission of preparing the celebration of the
500th anniversary of Casimir IV taking control of the castle. The Committee also
supported the Castle Museum, established in 1961, funding cultural and educational
activities as well as the purchase of artefacts. Eventually, it transformed into the
Society for the Care of the Castle. These organisations recruited members from
among the local intelligentsia, activists, members of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing
Society – all of them, importantly, were heterochthonous, but in a practical
manner they embraced the monument in spite of its anti-Polish background and
roots in foreign cultural heritage.
