Motivation
editRecently I had a look at the current use of narrative location (P840) and I noticed some uses that did not indicate a concrete location but rather significant features of the environment the narrative is set in, like church, jungle, bathroom, etc. I think this should be better expressed using an own property and narrative location (P840) should be reserved for concrete geographic locations. Please feel free to improve name and description of this property proposal. Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 14:10, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

- but Treasure Island (Q7836700) is totally set on Treasure Island (Q14834627). in this case narrative location (P840) is more appropriate --Shisma (talk) 14:33, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- You are right. I think in this case one could also use both - Treasure Island (Q7836700) <set in environment> island (Q23442) and Treasure Island (Q7836700) narrative location (P840) Treasure Island (Q14834627). - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 16:26, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

- Support in that it can also act the other way - a generic descriptor of a location/setting/environment/etc can be replaced with a specific one later if need be. Arlo Barnes (talk) 15:19, 21 June 2020 (UTC)
- Support Good idea, what about multiple environments, let's say first 50 minutes take place on an island and then the next 40min within a city, what qualifiers could be used? Germartin1 (talk) 13:28, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
- I tend to use nature of statement (P5102) mainly (Q91013007) / rarely (Q28962310) to give weight to different locations (when using narrative location (P840)). This could also be used for <set in environment>. To give the exact chapter(s)/section(s) when a work is set in this environment one could perhaps use time index (P4895). - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 21:04, 23 June 2020 (UTC)
- Sounds good, what about extending the scope to events. Like some traditional festivals are held on a beach, or a specific music festival is always held in the forest. Germartin1 (talk) 22:08, 3 July 2020 (UTC)
