Description | mathematical formula representing the definition of a mathematical concept |
---|---|
Data type | Mathematical expression |
Domain | instances and subclasses of mathematical concept (Q24034552) |
Example | absolute value (Q120812) → absolute value (Q120812) → |
See also | defining formula (P2534) |
Motivation
defining formula (P2534) allows to add the formula that defines a mathematical statement, but currently there isn't a property to add the formula that defines a mathematical concept. Malore (talk) 18:00, 10 June 2018 (UTC)

- Comment I don't understand your distinction here regarding defining formula (P2534) - why can't you use it for such a purpose? Your example of absolute value certainly I would think defining formula (P2534) is appropriate and accurate as the property for? ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:41, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith: The description of defining formula (P2534) says it is used for theorems and laws--87.17.216.218 21:05, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
- Well that's certainly not how it's been used, I'd argue the description there is wrong then. See for example arithmetic mean (Q19033). This should probably be discussed on the talk page for defining formula (P2534). ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:55, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

- Oppose per Arthur, just use defining formula (P2534) - feel free to broaden its description and usage instructions to reflect that. − Pintoch (talk) 13:50, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
