Discussion
- Support however I think a different English label would be better, maybe something like "word origin"? as the meaning is quite different from the etymological implication of derived from lexeme (P5191). ArthurPSmith (talk) 13:57, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- How is this different from derived from lexeme (P5191) <unknown value> with a language of work or name (P407) qualifier? - Nikki (talk) 11:06, 10 August 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose for now. - Nikki (talk) 14:22, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
- language of work or name (P407) is used for works so far. Not for a Lexeme. We may need "Language of Lexeme" if we need to go your way.-Nizil Shah (talk) 07:10, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
- language of work or name (P407) is our generic property for marking the language of something. There is discussion about the right label for the property on the talk page. - Nikki (talk) 14:58, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

- Support This would be helpful when word of origin is not known. Old paper dictionaries often mention "language of origin". This property will handle this until the "derived from" with "language" qualifier replace it with precise known word. -Nizil Shah (talk) 07:08, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose I think we should not multiply etymology properties, if something can be expressed with existing ones. I like the idea of derived from lexeme (P5191) <unknown value> with a language of work or name (P407) qualifier. I already used it this way in biały (L17693) and it looks nice and understable.
