Notified participants of WikiProject Authority control As of now, Wikidata stores in Slovak National Library (VIAF) ID (P7700) the IDs (tag 001) sent by Slovak National Library (Q620899) to VIAF (e.g. https://viaf.org/processed/SKMASNL%7Cvtls011643968); these vtls IDs, at the moment of the proposal (December 2019), were used both in the SNK website (autority.snk.sk) and in VIAF; however, already in March 2020 it was noticed that SNK website didn't use them anymore, so from that time these vtls IDs are used only in VIAF and seem to have been completely dropped by SNK. A previous proposal (September 2019) tried to use Koha IDs, which were used in SNK website (autority.snk.sk), but the proponent asked SNK about these IDs and was informed that these IDs were not permanent, so dropped the proposal; the use of Koha IDs was proposed again in March 2020, so @Bargioni: contacted SNK in May 2020 and was informed that these IDs were still not permanent, so there were no steps forward. A few days ago Bargioni contacted SNK again and was informed that Koha IDs have finally become permanent, so I think this property will very much help in increasing the coverage of Slovakia in Wikidata; Bargioni is already elaborating a Mix'n'match catalog for the IDs of humans. --Epìdosis 11:45, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

Discussion
edit- Question @Epìdosis, Bargioni, Vladimir Alexiev: Basically, I'm not against it. Is it to transform the old property or to create a new one?
(I am more in favor of transforming identifiers which have become unnecessary!)Why not add the marc parameter (to 1) in the URL formatter? —Eihel (talk) 13:05, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Eihel: Sorry, forgotten "marc=1" in URL formatter, now added. I propose to create a new property, leaving the old Slovak National Library (VIAF) ID (P7700) as it is both because it represents data still present in VIAF and because it has nearly 1500 uses. Some very similar cases: NSZL (VIAF) ID (P951) and NSZL name authority ID (P3133); Vatican Library ID (former scheme) (P1017) and Vatican Library VcBA ID (P8034). --Epìdosis 13:21, 5 August 2021 (UTC)

- Comment the labels for this and P:P7700 should differentiate them better. Currently this proposal has "SNK ID" and the existing property "Slovak National Library ID"/"identifiant de la bibliothèque nationale de Slovaque SNK". If P7700 is the former scheme, add "(former scheme)" there. If both identifier have different autonyms, add those. --- Jura 05:25, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Jura1: I agree, I would use the same practice as NSZL, so probably Property:P770 "SNK ID (VIAF)" and this one "SNK ID", with further disambiguation in the description. --Epìdosis 09:57, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
- I guess that's better than no differentiation, but VIAF isn't really the name of the identifier. --- Jura 10:13, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Jura1: Maybe a bit better "SKMASNL ID (VIAF)" (since SKMASNL is the code that VIAF assigns to SNK) and "SNK ID". --Epìdosis 11:36, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
- "(from VIAF)"? --- Jura 08:02, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
- Could be OK. --Epìdosis 20:20, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
- IMHO that's too VIAF-specific (it's expressed as "code... VIAF component". I'm not aware of any VIAF-component prop to use such code as its name. --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 13:12, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

- @Epìdosis: the first example returns "Rosmány, Karol, mladší, 1937-" rather than "Wilhelm Dilthey". Also, that WD item doesn't have Slovak National Library (VIAF) ID (P7700) and it would be best to illustrate with an example that has both. --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 13:12, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Vladimir Alexiev: I agree, example edited. --Epìdosis 13:34, 13 August 2021 (UTC)
@Epìdosis, Sotho Tal Ker, Jneubert, Jura1, Vladimir Alexiev: @Kolja21, Eihel, Bargioni, Jeanjung212, Jklamo: Done SNK ID (P9807) --Alexmar983 (talk) 13:02, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Alexmar983: can you sort out the label issue. We shouldn't have two properties for "SNK", thereof one only called "SNK". --- Jura 13:05, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Jura1: I have used "SKMASNL" (VIAF code) for P7700 and "SNK" for new P9807. --Epìdosis 13:13, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- That's not the label I see for P7700. Contrary to items, property labels are meant to be unique in English and using an abbreviation or a different language versions as English labels isn't that great (I find that just confusing). If one is the former version, let's add "(Former scheme)". --- Jura 13:18, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about using "former scheme": the values stored in P7700 are still used in VIAF, so I think that a disambiguation containing the word VIAF is clearer. --Epìdosis 14:13, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
