Motivation
editFamily names are a subset of lexemes, so I think now – during the growth of the lexeme namespace – would be a good time to add external identifiers for family name dictionaries.
This dictionary covers family names used in Germany, i.e. not only German names. However, to get an estimate, I just queried 1152 German family name items. There should be overlap with the 25000 names already present in the dictionary. I haven’t found a German family name lexeme right now, but I would expect some growth there.
I am not sure if I understood the expected completeness correctly. I assume there is no principled reason why Wikidata might not eventually contain all the family names listed in the DFD.
To me, the short name “DFD-ID” would seem to be a suitable primary label.
