Bad revert
editPlease explain why are you separating Q11872258 from Q511093? They are the same. Infovarius (talk) 19:29, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
- I already gave a comment when I saw that you were requested item for deletion: Wikidata:Requests_for_deletions/Archive/2013/04/26#Q11872258. So they are not the same. Centroid deals with the centroid usually, and triangle centroid only triangle's centroid. --Stryn (talk) 19:56, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
If only Wikidata would provide a space for "summary" as does Wikipedia, I would have been able to provide my reasoning there. Since there is no such thing at Wikidata, and users are not given a chance to provide their reasoning, you should not revert other users' edits before asking them on their talk-page.
The reason why I removed the links to [hewiki], [plwiki], [ptwiki] & [ruwiki] is because those articles are all about responsa in Judaism. I therefore added them to en:History of responsa in Judaism together with de:Response (Judentum) & fr:Responsa (judaïsme).
I can not comment on ar:جواب شرعي & bg:Респонса since I can not read those languages.
Sincerely, -- -- -- 01:56, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, you should add links which you deleted, to somewhere else. Now those links are without any item. I can't contact for every user, to ask why did they removed links. Wikidata has so many users (mostly ip users), who remove links just because they are vandalizing. I don't understand why did you added those links to English Wikipedia, because nowadays all interwiki links should be added to Wikidata, but I added those now into Q3427762, though maybe English article should have different item, because it's about history. --Stryn (talk) 06:43, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Q146027
editCould you protect the page permanent?--Trade (talk) 16:06, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- It's currently protected until 27th May. Let's see how much vandalism page gets after it, and I (or some other admin) will protect it again, but permanently only in extreme cases. --Stryn (talk) 16:10, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

Nomination for adminship
editHallo Stryn, thank you for considering me as a possible administrator on Wikidata. After some hesitation which mainly had to do with my concerns how I could share myself as an admin on huwiki and, potentially, on Wikidata, and after a lot of encouragement and support I have received from my fellow admins on huwiki I accept the nomination. Having edited Wikidata for a while with a five digit edit counter, I feel I have learned the ropes and I could be a useful member of the administrators' team from a reasonably large wiki of a language that not many other wikipedians share. Csigabi (talk) 15:55, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Hei, teit pyytämäni poiston, mutta menin ajattelemattomuuttani tekemään tuollaisen turhakkeen ennen poistopyyntöä. --Quap (talk) 21:34, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
--Stryn (talk) 21:38, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Your reverts
edit[1][2]
I notice that you've reverted two of my edits. Both of these linked to the wrong articles on Chinese Wikipedia, the first one links a specific economic model to a general economic model, the second one confuses land with land issues in China. I am not sure why you did it. If you take me for some random user removing links for no reason, do know that the current quick edit interface does not allow us to put edit summary. I assume that the lack of edit summary is what prompted you to revert my edits. Please keep that in mind when you do recent changes patrol next time as I believe many legit removal of links have or will be reverted due to the lack of summary.
I should also mention that I am an admin on Chinese Wikipedia. There already has been a lot of confusions among our community regarding the implementation of Wikidata. We should work hard to make sure this platform is working as intended. Lecter (talk) 02:10, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
- Hi and thank you for your comment. I'm sorry for reverting your edits. But you should add links which you deleted, to somewhere else, then it's not even possible to revert your edits, if links are already in other item. Now those Chinese links are without any item. Every Wikipedia article should have a item. I can't contact for every user, to ask why did they removed links. Wikidata has so many users (mostly ip users), who remove links just because they are vandalizing. --Stryn (talk) 06:55, 10 May 2013 (UTC)

Ytterby
editI have just solved an interwiki-conflict about Ytterby gruva (near Stockholm) and Ytterby (near Göteborg). The mistake was a link to fiwiki. It looks strange that fiwiki is the only larger wiki with no article about the mine. Can you take a look if you have something there?! The only Finnish words I can are not apropriate or of very little help. -- Lavallen (block) 14:08, 12 May 2013 (UTC)

Käkisalmen lääni
editKexholmens län ceased to exist long before the Republic of Finland came into existens. Finland under den ryska tiden cover the time from 1809-1917 and Storfurstendömet Finland cover the time from ~1500-1917.
Are there any better items to describe the time before 1809 or maybe 1917 in Finland? -- Lavallen (block) 18:24, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
- Looks like we don't have any good articles to describe the time before 1809 in Finland. What I can found are these:
- Middle Ages of Finland (not yet connected to Wikidata) from 1100 to 1500
- Finland under the rule of Sweden from 1150 to 1809
- Sweden-Finland from 1202 to 1808

I've removed it because of a mistake I've commited when I've created the page w:ca:Alan Smith, that in catalan WP do'nt need any disambiguation elements, like in w:en:Alan Smith (footballer born 1980). editRight... we should all be playing by the same notes... If one adds what the other one has removed... Littledogboy (talk) 10:03, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks! Well... it's better to make new items for different names (actually you should have done it). I don't want to leave any articles without items. By the way, there is now separate items for those with different name. --Stryn (talk) 10:14, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. I must have overlooked some. In some cases I have some doubts about the "string" rule, this looked more logical, for example... Littledogboy (talk) 10:27, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
Please add yo code to Wikidata
editPlease add "yo" code for Wikidata:Ojúewé Àkọ́kọ́ and can you also make Ojúewé_Àkọ́kọ́ redirect to it? Thanks. Demmy (talk) 13:07, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
- Done. It's not possible to make such a redirect, but I changed the url from Ojúewé Àkọ́k to Wikidata:Ojúewé Àkọ́kọ́ at MediaWiki:Mainpage/yo. --Stryn (talk) 13:20, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
There is something i don´t understand there must be something mixed up. The item Q27505 is about disambiguation of Sachsen / Saxony in languages that use kyrillic alphabet. Why is it not possible to merge with Q10781328, that are all the disambiguations in latin alphabet?--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 13:25, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
- I don't oppose resist if those will be merged now. But when you merged those it looked like this. And we should not connect links with different names like "Saksi", "Sassen" and "Saska". Links with different names should have own items. --Stryn (talk) 13:43, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
Tennis tournament articles
editHello Stryn,
unfortunately your actions will be unwelcome to Wikipedians working on tennis tournament articles.
Let me explain the situation to you, as this has been a problem for years (for which a reasonably workable solution evolved in the past five years) which you may not be aware of.
First of all:
- there is no problem with the so-called Grand Slam tournaments (Australian Open, French Open/Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open), because these are organized by the ITF (representing men and women)
- there is also no problem with ATP (men) tournaments and WTA (women) tournaments organized in different place and/or time
The problem lies in situations where both the ATP and the WTA organize a tennis tournament in approximately the same place and approximately the same time. This is the case in Brisbane, Sydney, Memphis, Dubai, Acapulco, Indian Wells, Miami, Estoril/Oeiras, Madrid, Rome, Rosmalen/'s-Hertogenbosch, Eastbourne, Washington, Montreal/Toronto, Cincinnati, Peking and Moscow (in current calender order).
Some language wiki's (including the Dutch, German, French and Polish, which I will here refer to as the D-type wiki's) recognize that ATP and WTA are independent organizations, each organizing their own tournament, and consequently write one article about the ATP event and one article about the WTA-event (usually specifying singles as well as doubles results).
Other language wiki's (which I will call the E-type wiki's, including the English, Italian and other countries copying their results) have chosen to write one article about both the men's and the women's tournament as if they were one event like the Grand Slams. Under that article they usually create four sub-articles (men's singles/doubles, women's singles/doubles).
In your 'solution', articles can only be linked within one group: only D-type to D-type and only E-type to E-type. Unfortunately, this is quite unworkable for the day-to-day tennis Wikipedians who extensively travel between different language wiki's to find, check and update information. Being in one group actually isolates me from the articles in the other group. This is highly undesirable.
The practical solution that evolved during the past five years to create interwiki connections, is to link D-type ATP articles to E-type men's singles articles, and D-type WTA articles to E-type women's singles articles. That turned out to be a practical, workable and balanced solution.
For the sake of the army of bottom-level tennis workers (like me), I must urge you to stop your actions which have the disastrous effect of isolating the two groups of wiki's from each other. Tennis is pre-eminently an international subject, and the strength of Wikipedia World Wide is our international co-operation!
When taking up a theoretical viewpoint (such as "Women" is not "Women's singles"), the indicated solution would be that the E-type wiki's recognize that their combined gender article set-up is contradicting the basic reality that ATP and WTA each organize their own tournaments, and that they would split their articles in two parts. Sometimes, when I am in a 'mood of basic principles', I would like that. However, in my more realistic moments I understand that such a thing is not going to happen, and that we have to live with the situation as it as, and make the most of it.
"Making the most of it" here indicates the following statement: where a perfect link is impossible, a next-best link is preferable over no-link-at-all. Wherever you created two separate Q-nodes, one containing the D-type and one containing the E-type, I most urgently ask you to re-unite these to one Q-node. That will allow a Wikipedian in any country, who is working on a combined gender tennis tournament article, to cross over to the equivalent article in any other country.
Kind regards, Vinkje83 (talk) 16:58, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, yes, I know this all what you told. I've also worked with tennis tournament articles. But it's the right way on Wikidata that "articles can only be linked within one group: only D-type to D-type and only E-type to E-type". I know it's not good for those users who edits tennis tournments articles a lot. No, it's doesn't work if you link D-type ATP articles to E-type men's singles articles, and D-type WTA articles to E-type women's singles articles, because every different subject have to be different item on Wikidata. E.g. all properties doesn't work as they should if we link like this (see Wikidata:Tennis task force/Properties). I'm not going to re-unite those links, if this is big problem for you, feel free to ask about this on Project chat or somewhere else. I'm not alone with this view, and I'm not the only one who have restored links after your linking. --Stryn (talk) 17:15, 25 July 2013 (UTC)
- If the situation is really so that combined gender tournaments technically need two separate Q-nodes, one for the D-group and one for the E-group, can you (or other Wikidata specialists) create a clickable path between these two Q-nodes? (two-way traffic needed, of course) That would allow the tennis editors to cross over from a tournament article in one group, via its own Q-node, over to the other type Q-node, and finally to the corresponding article in the other group. It is a longer way, but better than no way at all. Kind regards, Vinkje83 (talk) 15:14, 27 July 2013 (UTC)
- I don't know how to do this kind of things. Best place to propose this is Wikidata:Contact the development team. I understand what is the problem, and this could help, even little. --Stryn (talk) 16:01, 27 July 2013 (UTC)

If they are different topics, such as en:Espada ropera and fr:Espada, or en:Kelmend region and fr:Kelmendi, they belong in different items. Thanks. Del♉sion23 (talk) 18:35, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

P47 and Tornionjoki
editI am looking at what Finnish items are best used for shares border with (P47) at the SE/FI-border. I know nothing about the subdivision of Finland today, and the articles on svwp are little confusing since it looks like some big revisions recently has been made, and I do not know how updated the articels are. Which finnish items are the best fit for P47 and the Swedish län/counties and kommuner/municipalities in your opinion? -- Lavallentalk(block) 16:31, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure did I get this. So I should tell which subdivisions of Finland shares borders with Tornionjoki? Or with Swedish läns/kommuners at the area of Tornionjoki? If the latter, then Tornio (Q214021) ←→ Haparanda Municipality (Q510310) (not Haparanda (Q588976)?), Lapland (Q5700) ←→ Norrbotten County (Q103686) etc. If this was not what you was looking for please let me know. --Stryn (talk) 19:34, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- Since Torniojoki is more or less the SV/FI-border, therfor my header above! :) Haparanda (Q588976) is not a municipality, it's an urban area, the administrative center (centralort) of Haparanda kommun. Urban area have no neighbour, per definition. Of course the relation Haparanda-Torneå is an rare exception. -- Lavallentalk(block) 19:40, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- So if urban areas can't have neighbours, then aren't Ylitornio (Q984930) (municipality in Finland) and Övertorneå Municipality (Q307603) (municipality in Sweden) correct items? --Stryn (talk) 20:49, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- It looks like they are correct items. Övertorneå (Q260609) is the urban area who is administrative center of the Swedish municipality.
- Swedish urban areas are per definition surrounded by at least 200 meters of rural (uninhabited) area. The Finnish-Swedish border can in some cases make an exception, since Statistics Sweden (SCB) do not know what is on the other side of the border. I do not know if Övertorneå/Ylitornio, Finland and Övertorneå/Ylitornio, Sweden would have been amalgamated as one urban area if they both would have been located in the same country, but Haparanda/Torneå would definitly have been that, at least to the part of Torneå who is located on the west side of Tornionjoki. -- Lavallentalk(block) 04:44, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- Lets see, if I have understood correctly, Tornio (Q214021), Kolari (Q543882), Ylitornio (Q984930), Muonio (Q302717) and Enontekiö (Q984861) is the whole set of Finnish municipalities at the Swedish border. And they border as far as I have seen:
- Kiruna Municipality (Q499474) <-> Enontekiö (Q984861)
- Pajala Municipality (Q186230) <-> Ylitornio (Q984930), Kolari (Q543882), Muonio (Q302717)
- Övertorneå Municipality (Q307603) <-> Ylitornio (Q984930)
- Haparanda Municipality (Q510310) <-> Tornio (Q214021)
- What I haven't been able to see is if there are any border between Kiruna and Muonio or between Pajala and Enontekis. -- Lavallentalk(block) 05:24, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- Looks correct, but looks like Pajala Municipality (Q186230) doesn't share border with Ylitornio (Q984930).
- Also:
- Pello (Q31331) <-> Pajala Municipality (Q186230), Övertorneå Municipality (Q307603)
- Kolari (Q543882) <-> Pajala Municipality (Q186230)
- Muonio (Q302717) <-> Pajala Municipality (Q186230)
- Enontekiö (Q984861) <-> Kiruna Municipality (Q499474) (though didn't find any information about this, but according the maps)
- --Stryn (talk) 06:19, 16 August 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, looks like I missed Pello on my maps and saw it as a part of Ylitornio (Q984930) -- Lavallentalk(block) 06:57, 16 August 2013 (UTC)

editI was just going to merge Category:Indigenous peoples (Q14452069) into Category:Indigenous peoples (Q7029110), when I saw that you already restored the latter. Was the merger my mistake? --Tobias1984 (talk) 19:00, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah, I tried to rollback Tolea93's edits at Q7029110 and restore the revision which was before s(he) deleted the links, but I didn't succeed, not even after deleting Q14452069. I don't remember anymore why I couldn't do it, but it was because some link was already in use in another item. But I see that you succeeded to do this. --Stryn (talk) 19:39, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Re: P107 (P107)
editHi, please don't add anymore P107 (P107) to items, because it will be deleted. --Stryn (talk) 08:56, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
- In this case, there are several {{Template:Constraint}} ({{Constraint:Target required claim|property=P107|item=Q215627}} and {{Constraint:Item|property=P107|item=Q215627}} from {{Constraint:Person}}) to remove from pages of space « Property talk », because this property is often checked by User:KrBot for Wikidata:Database reports/Constraint violations
- For about 200 properties, presence of the property meens that presence of P107 (P107) is required).
- I am just trying to resolve these Constraint violations. Odejea (talk) 09:40, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

NUTS codes
editI have renamed the 'NUTS codes' property, which was created by you. NUTS codes have different versions, and a NUTS code can be different for each version. For instance, the code for Greece on version 2006 is 'GR', while it is 'EL' in version 2010 (last available version). It is useful to have the different versions as properties, as it may be used to match Wikidata items with (for instance) statistics referred to a specific NUTS version code. Therefore, I have renamed the existing property to 'NUTS codes 2010' (as it is the last available version), and I think separate codes should be created for older versions. Note that I have only renamed the property in English and Spanish, it should be done for the rest of languages.
An alternative could be to create new properties for version specific codes, and keep the existing property as it. But what is the meaning of this property if no version is specified? Should we assume and document that it is referring to last version? What will happen when a new version becomes available and some codes become incorrect? – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dispiste (talk • contribs).
- Hello Dispiste, please see Property talk:P605#Should we have a general NUTS property or one property for each NUTS version?. --UV (talk) 13:50, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi! I found Q4120575 Antiphon of Rhamnus at the ""Unique value" violations" section of Wikidata:Database_reports/Constraint_violations/P214. Some values duplicate there some are different and need fixing. Thanks in advance! לערי ריינהארט (talk) 13:52, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- Merge it with Q335560 or what? I don't see which values need fixing. Also, User:Epìdosis deleted some links from Q335560 (see this), and those links needs also item(s). --Stryn (talk) 14:35, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Tyhjät sivut
editMoi! Osaatko sanoa pitääkö yhdistämisen myötä tyhjäksi jääneet sivut (esim. Q12913905) merkitä jotenkin poistettaviksi vai tuleeko nuo automaattisesti näkyviin johonkin backlogiin josta ne poistellaan ajan myötä? Jafeluv (talk) 12:40, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
--Stryn (talk) 12:51, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
- Ootko kokeillut käyttää gadgeteista löytyvää merge-työkalua, jolla yhdistäminen ja poistopyynnön tekeminen onnistuu helposti? --Stryn (talk) 12:55, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
- Testasin juuri, kätevältä vaikuttaa. Kiitti vinkistä. Jafeluv (talk) 13:09, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Empty items from bs-wiki
editHello! I made a page that laid out around 1000 links to empty elements of bs-wiki (similar to my last big requests). Maybe it will be more convenient? --Art-top (talk) 13:23, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hi, I deleted all those pages on the list now after getting many database errors. For me it's just the same how do you request for deletion of empty items. I btw like to modify them before deleting, so it always takes some time ;P --Stryn (talk) 14:58, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

- Yes, it's allowed to delete all items which are without sitelinks and not in use. By the way, I don't have more time (read: interest) to mass delete more pages today, so I will be back tomorrow if no one else has not deleted those pages. --Stryn (talk) 16:47, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
