I came across them when sorting potential values for category for honorary citizens of entity (P10280).
Other than
- "Q16687686" has the English label "citizen" (the person holding citzenship)
- and Q987080 "citizenship" (the award, honor, title or status of the citizen),
what's the difference between the two?
- (a) The statements on either item don't seem to differentiate them (except that one as a subclass of the other)
- (b) the illustration (P18) doesn't really seem to help either.
- (c) Only ruwiki seems to have articles on both: ru:Почётный гражданин, ru:Почётное гражданство.
- (d) It doesn't seem to be the distinction made in Vienna: list of honorary citizens of Wien (Q1837789) and list of honorary citizens of Vienna, Austria (Q576896).
- (e) I do think it's worth having separate items on:
- honorary citizen of a university (Q110696291)
- Keys to the City (Q110713301)
- Freedom of the City (Q110713305)
- (hereditary) Honorary Citizen of the Russian Empire (Q1982897)
- possibly others
- (f) Currently, if there is no location specific item, Q987080 is generally used.
If Q16687686 is for a similar honor that happens to be translated the same way in English, I think it's preferable to use the same label, but to explain in the (English) description the difference between the two.

- Yeah, it looks that ru-articles should be merged... I've proposed it. --Infovarius (talk) 20:44, 29 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. Unless there is some other point to consider, I would merge the two items here as much as possible. --- Jura 08:39, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
