identifier of a comic book series in the Grand Comics Database (GCD)
A series at Grand Comics Database (GCD) refers to a particular edition of a comic book or comic series with publisher, languages etc. In most cases there is no individual Wikidata item for each series but for the general work. To give an example, The Incal (Q92796) has been published in several forms, translations etc., each of them with an individual GCD series ID. The relationship between Wikidata item and GCD series is:
- Wikidata item - One-to-many (Q7092345) - GCD series
If a Wikidata items is primarily about a comic, it can be mapped to GCD IDs. This also covers Wikidata items that include a comic and its adaptions in other media. For instance 07-Ghost (Q80368) is about a manga but most Wikipedia articles linked to this item describe both manga and anime based on the manga. In any case the Wikidata item must be instance of (P31) comics (Q1004) or one of its subclasses. See Wikidata:Database reports/Constraint violations/P3589 for a list of violations to be fixed.
If a Wikidata items is primarily about a character or group, it should not be mapped to GCD IDs. For instance Superman (Q79015) is no comic or comic series but a character with multiple series such as The Man of Steel (Q3844227) and Superman Unchained (Q17023188).
Wikidata items on Lists of comics or comic series still have to be discussed.List of violations of this constraint: Database reports/Constraint violations/P3589#Type Q1004, SPARQL
