Is this really a single thing?
editIs "Gewässerkennzahl" (in the sense of an international system consisting of a number prefixed by a country code) a real thing? The German Wikipedia page seems to be talking about various different identifiers which identify rivers.
The infobox parameter they use also seems to be an invented format to allow them to enter codes for different countries using a single parameter:
- The format used for the parameter is not the format used for display. If "US/425264" is a real code, why display it as "US: 425264"?
- de:Elbe has the parameter set to "DE/5/CZ/1-01-01-001". That's not even a single code, it's two separate codes, the German one is "5" and the Czech one is "1-01-01-001".
- The numbers don't seem to have prefixes anywhere else, e.g. https://recht.nrw.de/lmi/owa/br_vbl_show_pdf?p_id=15060 (a list containing German codes) and http://voda.chmi.cz/hr05/seznamy/hsp.pdf (a list containing Czech codes, including the Elbe example above)
The numbers sometimes duplicate other properties:
- de:Ohio River has the parameter set to "US/425264". 425264 is the GNIS Feature ID (P590).
- de:Allanche (Alagnon) has the parameter set to "FR/K2514000". K2514000 is the Sandre river ID (P1717).
- de:Alatyr (Fluss) has the parameter set to "RU/08010500212110000037782". 08010500212110000037782 is the State Water Register Code (Russia) (P884)
Here is a query which counts the countries. It seems that there are only 7 countries being used, one of which is the US which already has its own property. The only other one I've seen so far on the German Wikipedia that's not included and doesn't have its own property is the Czech Republic.
From what I've found so far, I think this property should be split, so that there's one property for each system. Thoughts?

- In OSM, they use separate tags for each system, e.g. ref:fgkz for Germany, ref:sandre for France, ref:gwlnr for Switzerland, see osmwiki:Relation:waterway. - Nikki (talk) 11:02, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
- It seems to be an original consolidation of various somewhat related identifiers. I agree with your thought.

- It seems I forgot to mention it here, but I created Wikidata:Property proposal/waterbody ID (Germany) in an attempt to start splitting this. As I wrote there, if people agree with splitting this, I'll create more proposals for the other identifiers I can identify. @Jura1: You're the only person who's commented here, maybe you want to check out that proposal. :) - Nikki (talk) 17:02, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks. I had seen it. I figured it would go through ;)
