The Pocket Monsters Series (Japanese: ポケットモンスターシリーズ) of Shogakukan TV Picture Books (Japanese: 小学館のテレビ絵本) is a series of children's picture books published by Shogakukan in Japan.
TV picture books are a type of picture book commonly published in Japan. They are comics produced by adapting frames from a TV series (usually animated series, but they are also made for tokusatsu series), with speech bubbles added for dialogue. While the artwork is typically sourced directly from the TV series, occasionally original frames are produced for the book. Shogakukan has published TV Picture Books for a variety of franchises, including Pokémon, Doraemon, and Yo-kai Watch, among others.
The stories of the Pocket Monsters Series books are roughly based on episodes of Pokémon the Series, sometimes amalgamating elements of more than one episode.
Distribution
In Japan, the books were published by Shogakukan.
In Greater China, the series was translated to Simplified Mandarin under the title 神奇宝贝 电视绘本 and published by Jilin Publishing.
