With 56 percent of the total population of the country, it has enormous socio-economic inter-district differences causing inequality among the districts. This paper discusses the causes and impacts of these differences by shedding light on historical and chronological state of affairs. The colonial era and its socioeconomic impacts on Punjab, the population share of districts, and the association between inequality and growth in the province have been recognized in this paper as the fundamental factors responsible for enormous inter-district disparities in Punjab province. The Colonial rulers built Canal Colonies, Cantonments, and railway networks in the province. They also recruited large number of citizens of North and Central Punjab in the Army. These colonial efforts played the key role in rooting the inequalities between the Northern and Southern regions of Punjab.
