John Phillips

I am an emeritus professor of French at London Metropolitan University, and I have also taught at the Universities of London (Birkbeck College), Southampton and Oxford (Wadham College). I have published books and journal articles on eighteenth and twentieth century French literature and film. I am a specialist on the Marquis de Sade, on whom I have published many books and articles, including translations of his work, an example among many being Justine, or the Misfortunes of Virtue (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2012). I am co-editor with Gaetan Brulotte of The Encyclopedia of Erotic Literature (New York: Routledge, 2006)
