The integration of evidence and data into decision aiding tools, such as dashboards, to assess and monitor environmental health (EH) in urban settings requires careful design. Departing from EH evidence and making use of the views of EH stakeholders and experts, this study aimed at defining requirements for a dashboard to help decision-makers analyzing and visualizing EH information in the Lisbon urban context. In order to set those requirements, it was combined a user-centered with a design card approach to engage EH potential end-users so as to collect their visualization preferences and gather information related to dashboard requirements. Specifically, three online group semi-structured interviews, involving 11 pot...

This study aims to systematically review key environmental determinants and respective dimensions and indicators, relevant to evaluate population health in urban settings, and to understand their potential implications into policies. Methods A search of literature published between 2008 and 2018 was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and SciELO Portugal databases, on studies with evidence on association between an environmental determinant and a health outcome in urban contexts. Health determinants, dimensions and indicators researched in the selected studies were synthetized, and associations analyzed. An independent assessment of quality of the studies was performed. Key conclusions and policy recommendations were extracted to build a framework to analyze environment related population health and policies in urban settings. Result...

The use of suitable indicators to monitor and assess EH is fundamental in informing evidence-based interventions at the local level. A participatory approach to selecting indicators to inform the monitoring and assessment of EH in Lisbon is herein considered. Evidence derived from a systematic review of literature and data from Lisbon and Portuguese databases were analyzed by 12 Portuguese experts in individual semi-structured interviews. The interviews aimed at identifying relevant indicators and important emerging issues in the Lisbon urban setting. The outputs from the interviews were validated by a two-round Web-Delphi process in which panelists (22 experts) from different areas of expertise expressed their views regarding the relevance of the indicators for the analysis of EH in urban settings....

Quality of Life approaches have demonstrated that, beyond a certain level of economic development, subjective satisfaction does not increase and is highly stable in Western societies (Eckersley, 2000, Eckersley, 1998, Cummins, 1995, Cummins, 1998). ...

Palavras-Chave: casamento, família, gênero, geração MARRIAGE: time, centering, generations and gender A hundred years after Durkheim stated that “individuals are more important than things” in reference to patrimony in the family and marriage, this assertion became common sense. Toda...

Differences and similarities between women and men are mapped and characterised according to different life stages: youth, rush hour of life, and late working life stage. These portraits take into account several dimensions: family, structural living conditions, and unpaid and paid work. Income determinants are identified, and inequalities between men and women are also addressed through the lenses of social classes. The analysis is based on cross-national data from several databases: European Social Survey (ESS), and International Social Survey Programme (ISSP), European Working Conditions Survey (EWCS), Structure of Earnings Survey (SES), and the Labour Force Survey.

Paradoxically, it is also one of the European countries where female academics have the highest publishing productivity (Elsevier, 2021) and make up most of the doctorates (55% in 2016). Only very recently, however, these inequalities began to receive attention. In 2019, for example, women's participation in academic decision-making and leadership became required by law (National Law 26/2019) in all Portuguese public higher education institutions. And levelling effects of this law are soon expected since human resources management in the public HE institutions in Portugal is a centralised system (OECD, 2021). In this context it also becomes interesting to understand what academic leaders think about the promotion of gender equal...

Young women do better in school but, at the age of 13, they also report more depressive symptoms. On the other hand, at the age of 17 and 21, the trajectories of youngsters of both sexes are reshaped showing differentiations in some respects and similarities in others. Accordingly, young women’s initial educational advantages may not have promising effects, culminating, sometimes, in early interruptions or corresponding, afterwards, to precarious experiences in the labour market. Drawing on a theoretical framework which combines an intersectional gender approach with sociology of education, this presentation seeks to explain youngsters’ trajectories and the differences and similarities found. In order to do so, we will analyze the ways in which the trajectories ...
