The report is prepared on the basis of the study done on the greenhouses and its corresponding subjects to improvise it as a well-functioning botanical exhibition space. The study is done on the basis of the secondary data for literature review and case study on the Eden Project. Whereas, the case study on the National Botanical Garden is based on the field visits and interviews.
The literature study is based on the greenhouses and its corresponding features, services and amenities. As greenhouses deal with plants, a brief plants study is done for the purpose of creating the required environment for the plants. Lastly, considerations for exhibitions are studied to facilitate the greenhouse with proper planning and design as an exhibition space.
To understand the use of greenhouse more as an exhibition space, the case study of the Eden Project based in UK is done. The advance engineering and material technologies used in the project is a good example for a greenhouse as a large biome used for exhibition purpose. Whereas, the study on the glasshouses of the National Botanical Garden depicts the simplicity of the structures as a botanical exhibition space and points out the places for improvements.
Lastly, the researched information are compared and analysed, which have helped to plot the suggestive recommendations for the necessary interventions in greenhouses to act it as a botanical exhibition space.
The study and the report is more specific on a subject. I hope this material can be helpful in the corresponding field of practice related to plants conservation and display.

It is a practical way of analyzing the knowledge we gained in the theory classes. We are glad that we get the chance of report writing which has broadened our mind in the respective subject matters. This report was assigned by our Sr. Lect. Bindu Shrestha as a first report in our first semester. As this is our first report we lacked the excellent knowledge of report makings and experiences. Despite, we have tried our best to give our bests in this report. Though, we gave our bests in this report making we still feel many things are lacking in our report, which are to be improved in coming days.

Houses provide shelter and security against local environment like sun, wind, rain, climatic conditions and animals. These functions of houses are further supplemented by the notion of having pleasure and comfort at the extent of optimal use of resources and constructions, which are clearly depicted on the vernacular architecture. With the practices of modern development, the understanding of housing has extended as more of a consumer good. The houses are often considered as important sociocultural dynamics of life and are taken as the symbols of achieved status. Rapid urbanization, gradual shift in the economic base from agriculture to service and commerce, and the changing lifestyle of city dwellers have created a huge demand for housing .

The RCC construction technique has boosted the urban development in the valley as well as had adversely impacted the environment by contributing to CO2 emissions and also has imposed threats on the traditional building practices. This paper tries to overlook the reasons behind the wide acceptance and popularity of RCC constructing techniques in the valley. For this, survey was conducted to test the preferences of RCC constructing techniques and the instruments were statistically tested through exploratory factor analysis to identify the latent factors. The factors are further statistically tested to determine their significance differences in influencing the preferences of RCC building techniques. All the factors show equal significant differences.

They define identity and existence of the traditional neighborhood. The traditional cultures in the traditional neighborhood are ever changing and in the contemporary context modernization and globalization tend to play major role. This paper intends to explore various cultural shifts like the adulteration, disappearance of traditional culture, conservational stances of traditional culture, traditional culture encompassing foreign externalities and production of completely new culture in the traditional neighborhood of Kathmandu. Literatures were studied to comprehend the concepts of cultural shift in the global context. Two different individuals from two different traditional localities of Kathmandu were interviewed. The reviews and the vignettes from the interviews were referenced to critically analyze the contexts in the traditional neighborhood of Kathmandu. It is found that in the limelight of modernization and globalization, the traditional culture in the traditional neighborhood of Kathmandu are in the state of disintegration and adulterated in the process of cultural homogenization. However, in some instances, the strong orthodox thinking and ideologies have strongly supported the core essence of the traditional cultural practices, resulting cultural hybridization and also conservation.

The economic activities and practices in the capital may range from the large corporate establishment to the small street-sides shops and vendors. The large increasing numbers of the street-sides shops and vendors are significantly catering the growing demands of the increasing population of Kathmandu. The businesses in the temporary make-shift shops vary from the food/ groceries, clothing, electronics to daily household goods and commodities. The stories behind the undeveloped businesses of street vendors highlight the livelihood of the urban poor that prominently contributes to the regional economy, although being illegal. These vendors are mostly found in the pedestrian concentrated areas of Kathmandu like Ason, Ratnapark, Sundhara, Baneshor, Chabahil, Koteshor and other places. They are often regarded as issues in urban development of Kathmandu as they disturb the mobility in the streets, contribute to the informal economy, pollute the cities and create other various problems. In this regard, this paper intends to overview the state of street vendors and their impacts on the society and economy of Kathmandu.

This paper intends to explore the status quos, continuities and discontinuities of the vernacular architecture in the outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley in the contemporary context. Literatures were studied to comprehend the concepts of vernacular architecture and the practicing paradigms in the global context. These reviews were referenced to critically analyze the contexts in the contemporary outskirts of the Kathmandu Valley. Three different individuals were interviewed and a field observation in Ghumarchowk was conducted. Studies showed that the vernacular architecture practices in the outskirts are either being disregarded or are adulterated to fit in the contemporary modernity. At few instances of conservational approaches to promote and encourage vernacular architecture is also found but, is only constricted to a profit generating institutional mechanisms. The sustainable features of the vernacular architectural practices where, environment exploitation is discouraged and social cohesion and bonding is appreciated should not be undermined. The studies project the needs for proper strategies, policies, awareness and design skillsets for a rational continuity of the vernacular architecture where few values and norms of the vernacular architecture may have to be reconsidered.
