Two sisters, my mother and aunt, Clara and Vilma, dressed in the latest style. Taken in the Bronx, New York in the late 1940's. They were named for Clara Bow and Vilma Bánky. Homemade dresses. The houses in front of the house haven't been built yet. And there were still no houses behind us. Behind the girls, my grandfather built a large grape arbor, basically a city lot size, from which he produced what may have been the world's worst wine. The gray days of winter have me looking forward to spring and lighter/brighter clothing. I scanned these from a 1949 insert of the pattern department of the Philadelphia Inquirer. The green ensemble with matching beret in the first picture has my name all over it. I love the color combination. While the 30s is my absolute favorite era, there are so many things I love about the designs of this time period too. So pretty!
