Pico Racer is a new and exciting racing game for your Pico-8 console. Overtake opponents and avoid obstacles! Drive through the night! Race your way through three continents! Enjoy geography that makes no sense!
If you loved Buggy Boy and Pole Position in the arcades or Enduro on the Atari 2600, then this is the game for you.
Controls:
- UP / X = ACCELERATE
- DOWN / Z = BRAKE
- LEFT/RIGHT = STEERING
Note: the downloadable file below is the Pico-8 cartridge, which means you need Pico-8 to use it. If not, just stick with the above web version.

Wow, retro taken seriously. All the nature of the sounds and the graphics really give back that old-game feeling, while also being a very competently made game, I never met any bugs/issues.
If I ever make a Pico Racer 2 I will add a difficulty selection!

you got me addicted to this game. well made.
The web version isn't working for me. I tried Firefox and Chrome but can't get past the start screen. I tried Z, X, Space and Enter. I clicked around the screen several times. No progress. =(
OK, I just noticed you need to click on the mute button on lower right corner of the game area and then the game has focus. Clicking on the game used to catch the focus but for some reason doesn't do it anymore.
EDIT: Also the black area around the game seems to work.

Please specify what counts as a fire button, because space doesn't work, Enter doesn't work, an actual game controller doesn't work... :)

Tee-hee! Works now. What a blast from the past. And I mean that in both good and bad ways. All those 90 degree turns are just too steep and too many for a racing game. At least up to the first checkpoint it's pretty forgiving.
