applications like traffic monitoring, understanding human activity. Security is becoming
more and more important in recent years. The conventional method of surveillance is done
directly by human individuals. It is very costly and sometimes is not reliable. A possible
solution to the surveillance system is surveillance with CCTV. But this method is also
unable to access disastrous or any hostage situations. It is also vulnerable as it can’t be
controlled completely from a remote place. A surveillance robot is a potential solution for
these issues. Video surveillance systems are increasingly used in different fields, from the
domestic to the commercial environment. Current systems are being improved and
complemented with new elements and functionalities. We demonstrate the design and
fabrication of a Video Surveillance Robot. We are proposing the design and fabrication of
a video surveillance robot based on Raspberry Pi with the ability to perform tasks of face
detection, send real-time video and also the capability of controlling it remotely from the user
interface. With a view to checking the information received from the robot and for
controlling the robot remotely, as well as for receiving the video sent, a client application
has been developed for any device with a Wi-Fi facility. We also can control the camera
motion and can turn it 180 degrees and can receive video feed around the robot. The
designed robot can be remotely operated from anywhere inside the scope of wireless
coverage. The robot can run-up to the maximum speed of 83 cm/sec. This robot has a face
detection accuracy of 95% for single faces and 88% for multiple faces. We strongly believe
that this proposed Video Surveillance Robot will reduce the security threats in household,
commercial and other sectors.
