I hadn’t planned on working a lot on the hexies yesterday afternoon when I got home from grocery shopping but I realized the President Carter funeral stuff was on and thought I would tune into it for a little bit to the see the pomp that goes with it and actually sat for awhile watching it and getting caught up in it. So out came the hexies and progress was made! one long row of the black pieces left to do and then the long rows stitched together.
I’ve been looking at a bundle of fabric I got a couple months ago trying to decide what I will make with it and I think I will use it for the Shooting Star block pattern – I got the die over a year ago – this fabric is something of a Christmas bundle so I guess it will be a Christmas quilt – I’ll spread the fabric out later so you can see the prints better – I will get to it after I finish off the Rose Garden – next up when the log cabin is finished.
This is the die – it makes 11” blocks – I’m not sure right now if I will mix the colors up for each star or make each star it’s own color/print – to be decided.
Quilting on Scrappy Crossroads from Monday night – it is all looking kind of the same – each photo I share – I’m getting tired of it and ready to move on to the next one.
I had planned to sit at the sewing machine and make more log cabin blocks yesterday but I didn’t – Melanie and I decided we needed to both go grocery shopping in preparation of the big snow storm coming on Thursday and wanted to get it done before the crowds of people hit the stores for bread, milk and whatever today. In Arkansas sometimes it is almost mass panic – snow is coming! snow is coming!! LOL There is an air of excitement in the air. Kids of course look forward to snow days off of school and this time they are predicting the wet heavy snow that kids can make snowmen with!
A lot of people in the area really do not know how to drive on snow as we only get it a couple times a winter – we do not have a lot of snow removal equipment here – we live on one of the lower ridges leading to the mountains and it is all downhill from our house to the town. I stay home – and sew! (or read) – we are expecting 3-5 inches – I will be pleased just to see a little bit

That shooting star pattern looks beautiful! Do you applique the star onto yhe background pieces or is it all pieced? Guess I’ll find out soon enough as you work on it.
Enjoy the snow day(s)! As you know, we have lots of them and learn to live with it all. I baked bread yesterday as I didn’t want to drive on icy roads. Neighbors gave us a jigsaw puzzle for Christmas. We’ve never done one but we may get it out to work on soon if this cold snap continues.
Great job on the hexies. Jimmy Carter will now be a memory stitched into the quilt. I hope you enjoy the snow. I’m hoping we see some, but not holding my breath!
I missed that the funeral for Jimmy Carter was yesterday. Looks like you got a lot done. That Shooting Star block is really cool. Looking forward to you starting that project down the road. We aren’t projected to get much here, maybe an inch or so. I think we are on the very northern edge of the system.
We watched some of the ceremony for President Carter and felt sorry for those who were walking – it looked cold. I’m always so impressed with military pomp – the riderless horse, the caisson, the reverence for the President – and the respect to his family.
I never tire of seeing your quilting close-ups of Scrappy Crossroads, but I get it. 😉 That shooting star is so pretty!
We are under a winter storm warning and forecast 1-4 inches here. Like you, I just want to see some snow. We went shopping yesterday too. The clerks at Aldi and Kroger said they would be swamped today with folks stocking up, so I was glad we went when we did.
I got caught up in the Carter ceremony too. He did so much good in the world. Good luck with the snow, great time to sew as long as you don’t lose power.
I watched a little of the Carter ceremony yesterday, too, while we had our snow day. We only got a couple of inches, but decided it was a good day to just stay home! That’s a beautiful bundle of fabric – love the yardage you’ve got sitting on top there. The bundle will be pretty for the block you show.
I love your colorful bundle you will use for the Shooting Star. Hope you see a few flakes but not to much to hault everything! Its windy and cool here today.
Arkansas is not the only place where people go into panic mode when snow is in the forecast….people in Virginia do that too! And it makes me laugh when they predict a couple of inches of snow and I see people in the grocery store with their grocery carts piled so high they couldn’t get another item in there if their lives depended on it! It is as if they think they will be snowed in for weeks when in reality, the most they might be stuck inside could be a couple of days, tops!!
We are supposed to get snow later this week….guess I’d better get to the grocery store before the next wave of snow panic hits!!
Love that new block you show on today’s post!
I made two Shooting Star blocks into pillows for my granddaughters for Christmas. Not sure I would want to make enough for a quilt! They were not as simple as Edyta makes them look! I do love that Cube though! Have fun with it!

That’s another tricky looking block you will be working on shortly. Not that tricky to difficult blocks seem to bother you, you stitch them all together so neatly.
Southern IL got snow, we got none. The snow predicted for Friday is less than a half inch. Chicago has had more snow than us this winter and only 5.7″ total. less than half that we usually have by now. I don’t want a huge storm to catch up but I’d like to see the grass totally covered.
I was reading a Washington Post article about the impending snowstorm in the south and wondered if you were in it’s path. Sounds like you definitely are. At least you’re prepared and have plenty to keep yourself busy. It’s been cold and windy here, with some light snow, but nothing we’re not used to handling.
