It is of paramount importance for PM to be able to produce fully dense products for it to make headway in becoming an equal alternative to IM and be a better option economy-wise. Cold rolling is an inexpensive post-sintering densification option that enables the lowering of sintering conditions. Experiments were carried out in this study to investigate cold rolling parameters on the densification of titanium brown compacts with a starting relative density of 89.3 %. The highest relative density obtained during the cold rolling experiments was 97.7 % without any annealing. It was found that the density increases with an increase in the percentage reduction of cold rolling. High percentage reductions reduce the number of roll passes needed to increase the density up to a limit where the brown compacts become susceptible to severe rolling defects. It was also found that the t...

Step-by-step processes and procedures for preparing graphene nanolubricant concentrations and replacing them for the base lubricant in a domestic refrigerator system were presented as the measuring devices necessary and their uncertainties. The experimental dataset and the training and testing datasets for Adaptive Neuro-fuzzy Inference System. (ANFIS) are available. The use of an ANFIS approach model to forecast graphene nanolubricant performance in a domestic refrigerator is described. The Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) are also available as statistical performance indicators for the ANFIS model prediction.

Groove inaccessibility, top groove powder impedance, irregular sidewall powder delivery and lack ... more Groove inaccessibility, top groove powder impedance, irregular sidewall powder delivery and lack of sidewall vertical irradiation have been reported as major limitations for the use of Laser Additive Technology (LAT) for narrow rectangular crack repair applications. As a result, most reported repair attempts were concluded unsuccessful. In the present work, a multi-track laser re-melt technique was developed for the repair of narrow rectangular cracks of sizes 2 and 3 mm, both 5 mm deep on 7 mm thick Ti-6Al-4V plates. The laser re-melt technique was carried out at controlled laser power, focal length, spot size, powder feed rate, gas flow rate and scanning speed. The repaired substrates were evaluated for defects through optical microscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The obtained results showed densely fused defect-free repaired substrates with good evolving microstructure.

Persistent fatigue failure observed in vibrating screen side plates motivated this investigation ... more Persistent fatigue failure observed in vibrating screen side plates motivated this investigation to determine the effects of plasma cutting on the surface integrity and hence fatigue performance of mild steel plates. Fatigue crack initiation and propagation was reported to have occurred in a number of vibrating screen side plates in which bolt holes had been produced using plasma cutting. This cutting technique had been introduced to reduce bolt hole production times thus replacing the traditional hole drilling technique previously used. This inadvertently modified the surface conditions of the material. Since fatigue is largely a surface phenomenon due to a number of factors such as stress concentration and surface roughness, fatigue strength was unintentionally compromised. A proper assessment is always required to test the effect of new processing techniques on service performance before implementation. Although full scale fatigue testing is too expensive, low cost surface integr...
