Within the position of Instructional Designer/Trainer, my understanding of both pedagogical processes and media production means that given any learning objective, I can independently move from concept through delivery. Experienced with traditional, hybrid, and online platforms-as well as adult, technical, and diverse groups of learners-I am a passionate, driven, and energetic speaker whose background in English education has nurtured advanced writing abilities and inspirational teaching techniques. I am well versed in corporate and crisis communications, human performance technology, and myriad business-success essentials. I am looking to join a team wherein I can use these skills to drive corporate success and foster employee motivation. I plan to do this by careful and systematic engineering of the most fundamental of elements: Education. For these reasons, I seek the position of Instructional Designer and Trainer.

Through the lens of social exchange theory, the authors provide analysis of the marital pursuits of one of the series' primary characters, Lady Mary Crawley and assert that her actions provide clear applications of social exchange theory as she weighed the costs and benefits of relationships with various suitors. The authors further contend that this calculation of risks and benefits is a typical feminine behavior of women of Mary's economic and social standing. From the opening scenes of the first episode to the closing moments of the Season 6 series finale, Mary compares the merits of her prospective husbands analyzing the financial, social and personal benefits each has to offer.

MBCT research supports efficacy of practice (Evans et al., 2008) as psychoeducational training, and easily incorporates into any environment, functioning in adaptations of self-reflection. Further findings support MBCT as beneficial for anger, Attention-Deficit Disorder, disease, self-esteem, overall well-being, and others (Evans et al., 2008). Although institutional and workforce contexts are noting myriad MBCT benefits, educational settings are not. As MCBT research surges and practice spreads, most educational institutions lack widespread student mental health care; for example, The Department of Health and Human Services notes 11.5% of children aged 12-17 receive mental care in school (Working Together to Help Youth Thrive in Schools and Communities: Systems of Care, 2010). Best as daily practice and routine, MBCT potentialities cannot be disregarded in a country wherein school violence and drop-out rates continues to rise. A Government initiative of such practice exemplifies its importance, reporting statically significant changes in attendance, depression, success, expulsion, and other benefits—MBCT results are staggering, and the practices simple. This research reviews the aforementioned, offering a practical and engaging example of MBCT classroom integration using the student selfie (also connected to self-esteem and personality) to foster individual awareness and interpersonal connections.

Thus, this paper first seeks to review relevant literature as it pertains to in-class cell phone use; in addition, an introduction to practical classroom tools is provided, with focus on those that can foster student-teacher interaction, integrate classroom polling, and provide student-friendly platforms to in-class academic research and citation. Both their “Campaign for Real Beauty” and “Movement for Self-Esteem” (launched in 2004/2010, respectively) purportedly serve to inspire female confidence about natural beauty (Dove.us, 2014). This panel applies a critical lens to this divergent marketing phenomenon, seeking to uncover underlying ideologies within two campaign foci: America and China. As such, we suggest that while Dove's messages seemingly function as empowering and divergent narratives, deeper analysis reveals specific and intentioned emphases yet remain on those parts of the female most associated with societal standards of beauty.
Reviewing the overarching campaign within a theoretical framework, this panel will display and analyze examples from both markets. For example, revealed within Western messages are motifs reminding women to consider body size; stomach tartness; managed [low] weight; large breasts/posterior; and long, flowing hair. Similarly, juxtapositioning of Dove's Chinese campaign reveals similar ideological presence, asking Chinese women to consider corresponding motifs. Here, value is attached to exceedingly small stature/weight, yet divergent standards ask of the Chinese the following: “perky” [but not excessive] breast size, “angelic” face featuring double-fold [Western] eyelids, straight/lifted [Western] nose, heart-shape face, and pale skin. It is thus the proposition of this panel that while such messages appear well intentioned, they continue to reinforce and perpetuate those same ideologies of which they claim to oppose, holding to traditional exploitative marketing of the female image as it is tied to self-worth.

A wildly successful analysis that made sociology accessible for "the masses," The Lonely Crowd: A Study of the Changing American Character quickly became a cultural icon. Although the text would face harsh criticism, the insights posed within outline the foundation from which the "reality star" personae would develop. The "other-directedness" that is shaping American society, Riesman notes, is transforming the traditional, independent, All-American character into one obsessed with the acceptance from, and competition with, all others. Originating from these traits, reality-based television supplements its audience's mania for self-effacement while playing into American's insatiable drive toward societal acceptance; moreover, the "reality-star" character is an immediate product of this "directedness."

This hands-on workshop will quickly review in-class cell phone basics (e.g. polling and communication possibilities), and then introduce practical research-based tools and citation applications. Our intent is to help you increase student use of academic literature, as well as corresponding referencing guidelines. Don’t forget to bring your cell phone!

The annual APP Fair will be an opportunity for k-12 students to develop

academic interest as its time-period representations, and character representations, hold underlying ideological and cultural assumptions. This analysis uses a qualitative content analysis methodology to complete a culture-centered criticism based in Althusser’s concept of ideology and Gramsci’s theory of hegemony. Specific to this analysis, the theme of rebellion—as related to gender, politics, and class—provide the principal vehicle of examination, while juxtaposed with the corresponding characters of Lady Sybil and Tom Branson. Overall, this analysis will show that the characters of Branson and Sybil represent rebellion as against the norm, and thus become a powerful force working against three outlined themes of rebellion. However, albeit the Downton Abbey series purports such possibilities, it also resolves such attempts by ultimately leading both characters (and their relationship) into their own destruction and subjugation by the end of Season Three. Therefore, Lady Sybil and Tom Branson’s suffering reinforces the very stereotypes and constraints that they seek to counteract and overturn.
the need for men to “purify” male dominated societies of women that "drive men" to sexual
compulsion. Women are representative of societal atrocities--manifestations of patriarchal fears pertaining to the loss of power. Purging society of supposed forces proves a valuable service to patriarchal order, as a loss of these controls over the woman could prove disastrous. Thus, in order for the familial and societal patriarchy to maintain stability, it is the right of the man to exercise his jurisdiction. Because women are possessions, their violation directly relates back to their possessors; therefore, the woman’s natural propensity to be ravished, elicits a man’s
cultural predisposition to possess. Ultimately, these texts expose possession as the factor used to justify man’s desire to rape, and denote the woman’s fault in her own rape. The act of rape is a political means of advancement in a culture filled with women in need of being ruled. Thus, patriarchal construct requires rule over sexuality, which must be regulated to protect women, the men that possess them, and the patriarchal society as a whole.
