Did you work in a team?
No

Was the resolution a challenge?
Definitely! Trying to incorporate the identifying features of the mushrooms at such a low resolution was a challenge to my art skills. The lack of space led to some creative UI elements like using screen darkening instead of a timer

What did you learn?
I gained a lot of confidence in UI design, and learned a bit about random generation as well. I feel like I can definitely more effectively use the pixels I have now without making elements larger

Nice graphics! I included it in my LowRezJam compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Fun quick gameplay loops.  The music reminded me of Tetris, while the gameplay reminded me of those old flip-to-match memory games.  I liked that the music sped up and the sky got darker to put the pressure on.

That was my intention with the music. Thanks!

Really fun little game. I like how it gets dark instead of having a traditional timer. You did great on the variety of mushrooms.

Developer

Glad you like it!

This is such a neat concept because you have pay attention to which mushrooms are poisonous while at the same time reacting fast enough to collect them. The variety of mushrooms and lookalikes keeps it from going bland, and darkening the screen instead of using a timer is smart.

I really appreciate it! I was worried the variety might have been overwhelming since they're not common knowledge so I'm glad its on point.

Best mushroom game submitted so far :) Got 305. Калинка rules!

Developer

Much appreciated! I figured that using russian folk music would give an immediate Tetris feel. There's also a B-theme if you click the button in the top right which is  a midi version of"Hava Nagila".

Still playing this one; still enjoying it immensely. Well done.

I love this, wonderful sprites and simple to understand concept.

2 initial thoughts: 1) The splash image does the game no justice! I assumed (my bad!) that it was going to be another not-64x64-game. 2) I noticed a couple of times the generation would break; there wouldn't be any "good" mushrooms to click, and on one occasion, there weren't any at all.

Developer

I didn't really know what to do for the cover image but I just thought mushrooms with motion blur would be hilarious. I'm actually aware of the generation behavior, originally I wasn't sure how to check every block to see if there was at least one good mushroom but I can certainly program that now. My original solution was the little button mushroom button in the bottom right which skips turns and I had actually forgotten about that until now. I'm really glad you like it though!

I-- wow, embarrassing, I didn't put two and two together and thought that clicking the button mushroom was just to go to the next bit of the tutorial. And I've come back multiple times to this game to de-stress throughout the jam's first week. Wow. Having the ability to skip turns does fix the no-good-mushroom issue, haha.

Developer

Honestly it's hard to tell what's intuitive or not when I already know what to do, so it's a great bit of feedback! I think I could clarify the use of it a bit regardless, if I can make it say "next turn" instead of "next" that would probably be clearer.
