the art here is mind blowing nice work!
are the tracks under the tank a shader? very nice
Thanks! Actually the tracks use a super super simple trick. I didn't have time to think about a good solution, so I simply used a bad one:
Create a new object with a brown 4 wheels sprite under the car every frame. Each track object is then slowly faded out and destroyed. Not very good for performance, but it looks decent and took less than 10 minutes to implement, so perfect for a jam game!
My god the depth of this game how can anyone even make this in 4 days it’s insane.
I really, really, REALLY love this concept and design!
Great stuff, though like you said, the browser version gets horribly laggy after a certain point.
The amount of polish on this game is surreal! Really great job. You can tell I loved it, since I felt the need to download it for the future.
Full stars for this one! I love the art style, and the gameplay was addictive enough to make me download the game for later!
The game is really great. The performance issues really worsen the experience (maybe it's just my machine though, I'll try the windows build) but kudos to you guys, the fun is here ♥
Very polished and cool pixel art!
Really fantastic game! Lovely pixel art and I enjoyed mowing down enemies with my flamethrower. Impressive entry for a 4 day game jam. Well done!
Cool idea, I really like vampire survivors-esque games so was really excited to try this one. I wasn't a huge fan of how some of the mechanics were implemented, as I feel like they directly conflicted with things I like about these types of games. Firstly I didn't like how I had to sit around and wait to pick up truck parts as I feel like it interrupts the tempo too much and makes it feel unsatisfying to collect new items. I also didn't like how the currency despawns over time as it made me feel like I had to stay in danger at all times, which in fairness can also be viewed as a positive as it means the player is constantly taking risks, so that is more of a personal one. These last two pieces of feedback are more personals gripes however, as these do increase the difficulty in new ways which can definitely be positive for some people (just not me cos I suck at games lol). Finally, placing guns etc. on the outside of the truck was a bit finicky as the hologram of the held item didn't quite indicate exactly where the gun was to be placed, so it took a few attempts to get it in the exact position I wanted. This made it annoying to upgrade parts too as I then had to take my gun back off the truck to upgrade it and then have to go through the process of placing the gun back on the truck again. All this being said this is a very polished game, and to produce such a huge amount of content in just 96 hours is a real testament to the teams game dev talent.
Ok I played again and had a lot more fun. The cannon was really cool (especially once I upgraded it to a gatling), and I enjoyed drifting around with the tank. I did still find the waiting for stuff to collect slightly annoying, but it is a lot more bearable when you have some decent weapons!
Thanks for the exstensive feedback! About the materials despawning: It was a choice we made to improve performance, as the amount of loot on screen was getting too large to handle. As for the collection time, it was to prevent simply building a fast city and just zooming past enemies to collect upgrades and out scaling everything. I think there probably is a better way to achieve this, but it's what we went with for now.
Thanks again for the review!
Great game! Really polished. Good job! :)
I really enjoyed this game! probably the best one I’ve seen this jam, I don’t even know how you managed to make this game in 96 hours. Well done!
Thank you! I feel like the biggest reason why we can make such polished games in such a short time is that we use GameMaker, which is amazingly fast for 2D pixel art games like this (and of course that we also have years of game dev and game jamming experience). We also try to always go fun first, content second, so no matter what we produce it's usually fun to play.
I use GameMaker. Games like your entry just impress me and motivate me to continue with GM as there's so many ideas that can be accomplished using it.
Your game was great. Any plans to develop it further?
Thanks! We are currently working on our last year's entry, Vampire: No Survivors, and making it into a full game. So no plans on developing this one any further, at least for now.
I really like building big machines that goes vroom! Very good work, neat pixel art and overall very polished experience!!
Very fun, basically every part has a well-above average level of polish. I think the soundtrack could be a bit more specific to the game as it's just a sort of 80s jam (a well-done 80s jam). Visually one of the best with a distinct character who's actually a little bit on the horny side! There are very few horny games this jam which is a shock.
Great artwork, felt really satisfying to play.
Really nice pixel art game with nice concept. Wish there was restart button after you die. Good job.
Yo, we've got the same number of ratings lol
Really sick game, love building up a tank and becoming an unstoppable machine with tons of firepower, only issue I ran into was that it got really laggy (though that's probably just a browser version moment), usually slowing down to like 50% speed. Otherwise, though, solid time and super fun, love this concept and it could easily be a full game.
Definitely my favorite game of the jam so far. Polished and customizing your mobile city is really fun. Great job!
It would be awesome if you could rate my game too!
I think this is probably my favourite game I've tried during the GMTK game jam. Engaging with really interesting build variety. Amazing job!
very cool game, i like how you become generally tankier as you play, although i had some pretty bad frame rate issues so the slowness that came from that hurt the experience a bit
this game has some juice, very fun
Nice twist on all your references, the game is really fun :D
