Nice concept, great animations and art.
Perfect for a 48 hours jam
I really like the pixel art on this one!! And the take on the theme is interesting! I just feel that the game grinds to a halt when it's your turn to place stuff on the board. I feel the game could have used a faster pace, but I still think it's worth trying!
At first we tried make it real-time but it felt worse. We actually found turn-based strategical pace is very interesting to play, although making palyers see what and how they should trade-off in that game was hard. So may be because of bad UX you din’t find it as enjoyable as could :(
I love brick breaker. This is so elegantly designed. Also your leaderboard API will be a lifesaver in future projects. Excellent work!
Thanks for feedback!
Hope you would use it future jams. If you like it, don’t hesitate to get my unity package, mentioned in description :)
Art and sound are killer! Game it's self is simple, fun and addicting. I now understand poor bricks!
Well designed game. I would tweak the balancing so you can get much more bricks like a real game of breakout, and perhaps one or two more tiles of placement distance. It would also be fun to have a block that adds a second ball.
Excellent execution on a simple idea. One of the best presented games this jam for sure.
This is very impressive for 48 hours. The presentation is excellent and the game plays great. I might have been missing it, but it was hard to tell when you would be able to place down a brick and when the ball would just keep firing at you. Awesome stuff.
Sounds like you didn’t notice text in the left bottom corner :)
I agree, it’s not very noticeable and we have some problems with UI, had not much time for that. But the more ball rolling the more bricks you get. If it got back to paddle too fast, you won’t get bricks at all and end up with getting back to “place yourself” phase instantly
I saw the text, I didn't see the bricks being added down there as the ball moves around, that helps a lot. There are a lot of different placed to be looking at at different points in the game.
UI is not perfect, sorry for that :(
No need to apologize. It's still wildly impressive for 48 hours.
Took me a while to really understand how each of the different items worked and how to best strategize, but once I did the game was really engaging! The art and music really worked well together, too, making it feel really polished as a whole!
This game is really fun to play and it's very well done and polished. It's great that all the art and musci is original! Only other comment I have in the other direction is that for me it doesn't really feel like the reversed version of the Arkanoid, it feels more like a new original game because of the new mechanics. Honestly I enjoy this game more than the Arkanoid one.
Wow super neat! Well polished, nice graphics, nice sounds with strong mechanics. Really like to shadow style, very strong, not much to say except congrats!
Nice and catching game. Really well done.
Love your art style and the flow on the edge of background! (achieved by shader?) The game is fun to play. Great design on regarding character itself as one of the brick. Nice work!
Played on stream! See the video for timestamp.
I liked the game and the mechanics, but I don’t think I can easily figure out the strategy here. It was a great touch to flip the screen positions vertically so that we still played from the bottom, but now the paddle is on top.
I really enjoyed this game. The artwork is incredible, and the gameplay was just as fun. The game seemed pretty balanced as well if you develop a good strategy.
I can't figure out a good strategy. Seems like defensive play is better? The game is great. Very good concept and execution. I could see it being expanded into a full game, maybe as some kind of a roguelike?
Thank!
The best strategy is to make paddle shoot in slimes (it would try to avoid doing that), blow up windmills and make ball ricochet in the far part of the map so it would roll longer and give more points and bricks for next round :)
It requires a bit of luck to get slimes and some mastering of your prediction :)
If you are too defensive you get points and bricks very slowly, and ball gets faster and faster. So you need to balance between ball rolling longer and risking crown not too much. The Paddle has AI for judging blocks value when choosing first trajectory, so there is some element of "biting" AI too.
I absolutely love the presentation and concept, building your little brick castle to defend the crown feels fun.
The special effects from certain bricks really help keep things fresh, trying to get points etc :)
Well done! In just 48 hours a so polished game! I love the art style.
Cool art and creative gameplay! Check out ours too
