Great stuff! Can't wait to put PCs through Tomb of Horror - An ancient tomb unearthed in the heart of the Amazon. When a CYCLOPS operative comes out running naked and insane, FIST decides it's time to send in the pros.
Oh man please tell me how that goes. :)
Operation Sarcastic Riot is a conversion pack for adapting DnD and OSR content to FIST.
The PDF is 17 pages, with clean, well organized, zine-y feeling layout. Pictures are provided throughout, and everything is easy to read.
Contents-wise, this is a detailed and thorough conversion kit. There's rules for adapting everything from AC/Armor to Choke/Morale. It can get a bit formulas-y, but all of the conversion is designed around working quickly and getting to the heart of the content. You don't need to know calculus to use it.
The tone of the writing is conversational and direct, and this really does a *lot* to keep the text approachable. Reading it feels like sitting down to chat with a friend, and there weren't any places where I felt confused or had to double back to check a mechanic.
There's a lot of supplemental material here as well, including new Traits, monsters, and a section at the end with very specific guidance on converting from a ton of different systems. It's extremely detailed and well-researched.
Overall, if you want to lean further into FIST's osr tendencies by using it to run actual osr, this is probably the definitive way to do it.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the conversational tone.
The appendix of this is also secretly a short reference guide to nearly every popular OSR game out there. Magnificent.
Heh, thank you! I really wanted to be thorough.
It's done!
When I submitted this, there was enough info to do the conversions, and not much else. Now it contains everything I wanted it to contain.
All the appendices, updates to the main text... It's all done!
Main text is 10 pages, including Table of Contents.... The appendices are 7 pages. That's way more material than I expected when I started this thing.
No more beta! Even more public domain art!
Okay, there may be some typos. Let me know if you see any.
I probably won't even use Operation Sarcastic Riot, but it 's an awesome concept, and a well executed one. It's a referee-centered guide on how to adapt OSR adventures to FIST, both mechanically and narratively. It's written in a casual and informative style, which makes it easily understandable, and a table of contents means that it's still easily reference despite this format.
Sarcastic Riot seems like it would make for a very fun "special episode" session in an ongoing FIST campaign, or by having an entire campaign centered around thwarting CYCLOPS with time travel. I'd recommend it to any OSR or fantasy fans out there.
Thank you! It seems like I was not the only person who became interested in fantasy stuff for this jam.... At least two other entries involved fantasy! I may mention them when I finish the Appendixes.
Had a group once that tried system-hopping their characters every few sessions (one day we were doing Into the odd, the next it was Morkborg). This looks like a great way to craft one more into that list.
Oh yeah, especially once I finish the Appendix with the reverse notes (FIST to OSR)
