Another that I remember seeing in the discord - glad to play the final submission! it's a very cool take on a bullet hell game and enjoyed playing! - gets pretty difficult with the 'bullets' so close together, kudos!
glad you enjoyed my game!
Good game! I enjoy playing it. The time reduction item is really overpowered.
haha, it kinda is possible to cheese the game with it. i wonder what i could do to balance it.
Hello! 👋
Overall: ✨ This was a fun and neat idea. Great job overall!
Fun: 🎉 I loved how much playtime I got out of just going back and forth between the four levels. The game was engaging and enjoyable.
Visual: 🎨 The art was simple and perfect for a game like this.
Audio: 🎶 The music was also simple and fitting
Theme: 📚 Great implementation of the theme into your mechanics of deleveling.
Other feedback: There was a bug where sometimes the next level portals would align with the bullet patterns, making them impossible to pick up. For level 4, I wasn't sure if it was possible to beat it, as I didn't see any portals. Maybe I just needed to survive for 10 minutes, but it was really tough.
Great job on the game! I got a lot of fun out of it. 👏
thank you for the thorough feedback!
good job finishing the jam! the thematic idea is GREAT and the overall polish is good (eg. that the level pauses until you start moving) it was pretty fun trying to get to a deeper and deeper level, but sadly the bullet patterns were kind of random and hard so it was always just about luck after around level-3 deepness... cool concept nonetheless!! GREAT job!
kiitos!
Very cool idea with the level up and down mechanics!
I found a bug with the time reduction powerup, using it on a level 5 board causes you to be stuck, unable to do anything but reset the level.
fixed in the post-jam version: https://tic80.com/play?cart=3854
Cool pixel art game with a very retro vibe. I couldn't get a single coin tho lmao
aww, too bad.
A very unique and fun gameplay loop! I managed to clear the first level without purchasing items and once you get enough coins to buy items it makes beating the rest of the game doable. Fantastic retro aesthetic, and I actually like the soundtrack quite a bit. It fits beautifully. Like some of the other comments I found the purchase menu confusing but considering it's a game jam I wouldn't knock the project for it. Fantastic work!
thank you so much!
Too hard for me but pretty fun nonetheless. The patterns on the later stages very quickly become actually impossible as even when there are gaps the gaps are smaller than your hitbox.
Also managed to make it freeze when I completed a level 5 board on stage 2 by pure luck. (It was an "impossible" pattern but it took like 5.01s to reach me so it counted as a win.) I could hear what sounded like coin sounds as the music got slower and slower. I gave up waiting after a couple minutes and closed the tab.
the stage 2 freeze is fixed in the post-jam version available on the official TIC-80 website: https://tic80.com/play?cart=3854
Nice game, a lot of fun!
iI look forward to trying out Dark Energy in return, i'm sure it's a fun game too!
Lovely unique idea executed very well. I loved the idea of going deeper in a level to dodge harder and harder bullet patterns.
Would love a few invincibility frames after you switch between levels; sometimes, especially in stage 3, you would immediately hit a bullet or a board after switching.
One nitpick I do have though is that the bullet’s hitboxes seem quite large (I am used to more traditional SHMUPS with tiny hitboxes) which made a few patterns near impossible to dodge for me.
A solid entry overall, I had a lot of fun!
the collisions are actually pixel-perfect in this game. the player has a 2x2 hitbox that is tested against the pixels of the screen when rendering. the colors of those 2x2 pixels determine whether it's a death or not.
Highly innovative idea in which getting hit simply resumes the previous pattern. You also move by spinning the board; also a neat idea. However the patterns are generated procedurally leading to the final patterns being impassible without an item, almost like a certain Touhou game. However, this means it's necessary to collect coins to get the items. Still, it has great potential as a concept, which is the most interesting part of jams like this.
Music could probably use better instrumentation though.
with regards to music, i am limited by TIC-80's sound capabilities. i can only use simple waveforms, which may sound harsh to some players.
Game loop feels really nice, the back and forth adds to the frantic nature. It took me way longer than I would like to admit on how to buy things in the shop. It is right there but I just didn't see it for a bit.
ah, yeah, the shoppe UI is quite experimental, it's probably not using good UI practices.
Absolutely Simple yet Stunning Visual, Retro SFX, Immersive game play. The only thing that holding me back is the Player Sprite. looks like a butterfly but at first glance, it was hard to see and figure out how the game works. But after one game over, I finally found our main character and figures out how the game work. Love the game. Wish you the best.
good that you were able to figure out the main character. and it means a lot when someone says they *love* my game.
I really like the minimalistic gameplay and focus on dogging bullets is a well rounded experience, I love the art and banger of a music
i'm honored to hear that, Niko!
Some banging bit tunes
hey, appreciate it!
I really liked the game idea. The limited area increases the difficulty, and the rotating mechanic is simple yet challenging. I found it very fun. Congratulations
glad to hear you enjoyed my humble game!
This is really brilliant game on the bullet hell theme, the game play, the controls and the overall feeling is top notch! Only complaint is (as noted by one other) that some patterns sees to be un-beatable. I think that is actually just a minor thing. Top notch!
thanks for your positive comment, it brightens up my night.
yes, some attacks are unbeatable, as they're procedurally generated on levels 2 and beyond. i have no way of combating this as a programmer.
however, due to the recursive nature of the game, dying's not a huge timewaste
Exactly, so it is only a minor thing IMHO.
tell you what. i'll link you the post-jam build, with fixes to 5 found bugs and other improvements: http://tic80.com/play?cart=3854
would love to hear what you think of it!
your previous reply is my favorite comment so far, it warms the heart
The game is realy cool. Actualy i think th items are quite useles because they are consumable. I think that the game contains some unbeatable paterns. Also the game dont ract when i beat last level in stage. The bug is in the image:
Yep, this is a known bug, there is no solution yet.
it's been fixed now, the update will go live once the voting period's over.
