How does your game fit the theme?
It's an escape room themed puzzle game where you're trying to escape and find out what's on the other side of the door.

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes, I was fully solo dev for this project, so I wrote all the code and created all of the pixel art assets from scratch.

Solved everything :) Really good puzzles, the one with the books made me break my neck in a few places. Visual design and pixel art are really cool, however some sounds are a little too quiet to hear over the fireplace. Also wish there was some kind of ambient or music, but overall cool game :)

I really liked it! The only problem is that sometimes it is hard to understand what's going on, for example when you grab objects. As for the rest, great graphics, nice riddles, fun to play and well made! Good job!

Wasn't able to solve all the puzzles, but neat little game! I love the art!

Interesting take on the theme and lovely art, nice entry!

Good game!! nice art and super fun puzzles. Congrats!

Dang this reminds me of those old AfroNinja escape the room type games. I love those. I got up to making the fire light, but only because I was clicking on everything since a lot of objects had no visual feedback. But I do understand the time constraints with these jams. Good work!

Hopelessly stuck for some 3-4 evenings in a row on the book/shelf puzzle... Seems sort of linked to the piece of paper with scribbles on the desk but not sure if it's a red herring. :(( Hints would be appreciated! Great graphics though~ There were some things I clicked that resulted in an audio cue but I don't think those were visible items. Not sure if these were intended.

Developer

Thanks so much! With the drawers I didn't have enough time to create art for the inside of them, or their contents, so I just made it solely audio based, when you click on a drawer, if it's empty it just makes a drawer opening and closing sound, or if there's something inside the drawer it makes the sound of that item to indicate you collected the item.

For the purple books puzzle you are on the right track with looking at the paper on the desk. There are also audio cues that go along with that puzzle that should help you with figuring out what to do, however the audio mixing was the last thing I did for this game, I was super tired and running out of time, so it isn't as polished as I'd like, and the audio cues for that puzzle are really quiet, so it might help to turn up the volume. If you have the fireplace going, I'd advice clicking on the fire to put it out so you can hear better, you can always re-light the fire.

Noted re the drawers.

w.r.t. the books, I'm still stuck. Only two of the books have audio cues. Clicking the books in order (and reverse) according to the paper on the desk doesn't help either...

Developer

All of the purple books will have audio clues when clicked in the correct order, and you’re correct to be trying the order on the paper on the desk. Many of the designs are similar to each other, just mirrored, so make sure you’re looking carefully at the designs and clicking the right book.

Or, if you’d like to DM me on discord, @seedborne, I can send you the exact puzzle solution.

Ok I managed to figure it out. It was in an order I haven't considered! Escaped successfully, finally. Thanks for the fun!

I didn't manage to solve your game I wish there were some clues on what to do unfortunately I could not find them. The graphics are amazing and so is the audio, the gameplay was fun and it fits the theme nicely.

8/10

Thanks so much for your feedback! I did consider writing out hints/clues for the puzzles and posting them somewhere, I just wasn't sure the best way to do it and haven't gotten around to it yet.

Nice game! I managed to solve the game.

But I do agree with one of the comments. The fire sounds sure is too loud. I was stuck for a while before with the shelf puzzle. I can see the one with slightly different color, but I just don't know what to do. I was trying to drag the books to arrange according to the paper. Hahaha.

Developer

Thanks! Awesome to hear you solved it! And yeah, I just explained in another comment but basically I was way tired and ready to be done by the time i was doing the audio, and wasn't as careful about sound balancing as I would usually be.

Also, the game doesn't do a good job of telling you this, but you can put the fire out by clicking on it. And then you can just re-ignite it by clicking the log again.

This was great! I had a bit of trouble with audio cues getting lost under the fire sounds so you might want to consider adding more visual feedback when you interact with something, but you did an amazing job given the timeframe!

Developer(+1)

Thank you :) And  yeah, I was on 40 hours with no sleep when I started adding in the audio and mixing it, so I really didn't do a great job with that part lol. I'm not sure if I'll go back and add more visual feedback or not, but I will definitely be rebalancing the audio once the jam voting is over.

I enjoyed the cute pixel art and the sound effects were very pleasing!

Developer

Thank you! This was my first time creating pixel art, actually my first time doing my own art for a game at all, so it's been really exciting to see that people think it actually looks good lol

The pixel art is beautiful and I like it very much!

Developer

Thanks so much! This was my first attempt at pixel art, so 'beautiful' is a huge compliment!
