Christmas would not be Christmas without the mountains

There is one day of the year when each one of us searches for our roots: Christmas, a holiday that Christians celebrate instead of the winter solstice, once worshipped by pagans. The family of Dutch designer Ruben van Megen, who welcomed Ville&Casali into his barn conversion that he renovated himself, celebrates the yuletide season with natural compositions and traditional flavours. As does chef Antonino Cannavacciuolo, who gifts us a recipe for Christmas lunch. The Dutch designer’s cottage, with its two-island kitchen, is a solution consistent with the idea of home proposed in this issue by renowned designer Andrea Castrignano.

For those of us more romantically inclined, Christmas would not be Christmas without snow. For readers who love the mountains, Ville&Casali proposes three different furnishing styles: an apartment with floor-to-ceiling wood panelling in Cortina, renovated by architect Ambra Piccin for a couple from Milan; an old lodge in Alta Savoia, modernised by interior decorator Dorothée Simon; and a luxurious and cosmopolitan villa in St. Moritz, designed by Tuscan architect Pieto Corcione. For almost everyone, Christmas would not be Christmas without everyone gathering around the fireplace. Ville&Casali has asked eight architects from Italy and further afield to present a project with a different style: classic, neoclassic, contemporary or modern. These bespoke creations are accompanied by the new fireplace and stove solutions offered by Italian companies. Our furnishing proposals for December range from the latest kitchens to glass tabletop collections recently exhibited in Venice by Murano’s finest glassmakers.
