Sorghum is also resistant to drought, so the potential to be developed on land suboptimal, including on dry land in Kudat District, West Java Province. The research aims to determine the adaptability of some varieties of sorghum on dry land in Kudat District, West Java Province. Research conducted dilahan farmers in July to November 2011. Experiments using Randomized Complete (RAKL) with seven varieties of treatment and repeated three times. To seven varieties tested were (1) Numbu, (2) Kawali, (3), Padjadjaran University 1, (4) Padjadjaran 2, (5) Batari, (6) Keller, and (7) Taomitsu. Data growth and yield components and yield is analyzed by the Duncan test at 5% level. The results showed that (a) all of the tested sorghum varieties well-adapted to dry land in Kudat District, West Java Province, and (2) varieties numbu, unpad 2, and Kawali give different results, both to the ...

Sletr1-2 is a new ethylene receptor mutant that has a prominent character in a prolonged fruit shelf life. This research aimed to estimate the combining ability of Sletr1-2 mutant and determine the selection method for future breeding associated with the fruit shelf-life and yield. Four lines of tropical tomato, i.e., 'Intan,' 'Mirah,' 'Ratna' and 'Mutiara,' were crossed with the wild type Micro-Tom (WT-MT) and Sletr1-2 mutant tomato using a line x tester mating design. A randomized complete block design with four replications was used to evaluate twelve F1 and their parents. The study revealed significant differences in the GCA of the line and tester but not for SCA. The lines and testers contributed more to total variance than their interaction. 'Intan' and Sletr1-2 mutants had the greatest fruit shelf-life combiners, with additive ...

In order to develop such superior rice, yield testing at different agro-climates for some promising lines bred is necessary. This study aimed to examine selected rice genotypes in two different environments, namely Indramayu (9m asl) and Jatinangor (752m asl) and to obtain environment factors affecting the plant trait variation. The experiment was conducted during dry season with fifteen F 5 genotypes, arranged in an augmented design. Based on Least Significant Increase (LSI), genotypes showing better performance than checks were SP87-1-1 on number of productive tillers and total grain weight, SP73-3-1 on panicle length, total grain weight, and weight of 1000 grains. Meanwhile, SP46-4-1 and SP87-4-1 showed better number of filled grains than checks in Indramayu. There was no genotype performing higher number of empty grains than that of the checks. Based on the Principle Component Analysis (PCA), altitude contributed to high variation of plant traits. SP87-1-1 and SP73-3-1 are recommended to be grown in medium and lowland ecosystem because they have high productivity in both environments.

Utilization of mutant genes prolong tomato fruit shelf life through crossing is one of the best solutions to improve the fruit quality. The objective of this study was to determine the success of cross-pollination between commercial tomato varieties and shelf life of mutant tomatoes. Two mutant tomato lines Sletr1-1 and Sletr1-2, and one wild type strain were crossed with four commercial varieties (Intan, Mutiara, Ratna, and Mirah). The results showed that the success rate of crossing ranged from 77.50% to 100%, with an average of 95.76%. The average maximum growth potential of seeds produced was 89.17% with the lowest value of 75% and the highest 98.5%. The most top success of crosses was built by a combination of crossing Ratna x Sletr1-2, and the combination of Mirah x Sletr1-1 showed the lowest percentage of the crossing. The Intan showed the highest success as female parent of crossing, while Mirah was the lowest production of the crossing. The plant height of all hybrid was smaller compared to the commercial varieties.

Moench) is a multi-beneficial plant that can be used as food, feed, and energy by the types and the extensive use. This study aims to examine the performance of the appearance of five sweet sorghum genotypes (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) from the selection of sweet sorghum introduced from Japan and the opportunity to be developed and used as genetic material in subsequent breeding programs. The field experiment was carried out in the experimental station of the Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University, Jatinangor, Sumedang Regency, West Java. Altitude is around 754 meters above sea level (asl) and has type C rainfall (slightly wet) based on Schmidt and Ferguson classification, and Inceptisol soil types. The experimental design used a randomized complete block design with five sweet sorghum genotypes as a treatment and repeated five times. The results showed that the appearance of five sweet sorghum genotypes introduced from Japan was quite diverse, especially for the characteristics of yield components. Some genotypes show early maturity and differences in length of seed filling period. These characters will affect the yield of sugar content in the sorghum stem. Taomitsu and Super Sugar were suitable for high yield components. However, genotypic variability for all characters is narrow even though the heritability is generally high for almost all characters. This fact shows the need for increased diversity through crossing or mutation to make it easier to get high genetic advances for the characters to be improved.
