This study aims to test the effects of the number of removed lymph nodes (RLN), positive nodes (pLN), and pLN ratio (pLNR) on cancer-specific survival (CSS) in patients with node-positive prostate cancer (PCa). Methods A total of 2458 patients with a greater than 5% probability of lymph node invasion according to the updated Briganti nomogram who harboured pathologically confirmed positive nodes in the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database between 2004 and 2015 were identified. Multivariable Cox regression with forward stepwise selection was performed to identify independent risk factors for CSS. Maximally selected rank statistics were used to determine the most informative cutoff value for pLN and pLNR. Results The median pLN counts and RLN in the study were two (interquartile range [IQR] 1-3) and 18 (IQR 15-23), respectively. The RLN counts could not predict CSS, while the higher pLN and pLNR were associated with worse CSS (hazard ratio [HR], 1.11; p < 0.001 and HR, 1.01; p < 0.001, respectively). Patients with ≤ 2 pLN or pLNR ≤ 20% had significantly better CSS than those with pLN > 2 or pLNR > 20% (HR, 1.38 (1.08-1.77); p = 0.009; HR, 1.77 (1.41-2.22); p < 0.001, respectively). Conclusions In patients with node-positive PCa, pelvic lymphadenectomy provides important information for staging, prognosis, and guiding after RP therapy; however, it does not play a therapeutic role. The pLN counts and pLNR were independent predictors of CSS.

The EAU or NCCN guidelines have not made any suggestions on this question. In the absence of randomized trials, some register studies have been published but the results are varied. On March 5th, The Prostate published on‐line a study based on the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End results (SEER) database, in which the outcome of 427 patients received salvage radical prostatectomy after radiotherapy, was analyzed. The researchers found a lower risk of dying from prostate cancer in men who had LND than in men who had not (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.47; p = .03). Furthermore, lymph node counts also independently predicted lower cancer‐ specific survival (CSM) (HR: 0.60; p = .01). First, as the authors point out, the majority of clinicopathological data is unavailable. For example, before radiotherapy, Gleason score in biopsy is available in merely 39.6% of total patients. Furthermore, the vast majority of patients did not have PSA (100%), clinical T stage (100%), and Gleason score (100%) after failed radiotherapy and pathological stage (65.2%), Gleason scores in RP (88.3%). It would be very hard to get a robust result under these conditions. Second, lymph node invasion (LNI) is an independent predictor for prostate‐specific survival. However, the status of LNI in patients who did not receive LND was unknown. Its impossible to evaluate the impact of LND on CSM without the LNI status of two groups. Grouping patients according to LNI risk which is predicted by clinicopathological characteristics is a feasible strategy. Therefore, we think the conclusion in the article by Wenzel et al. LND at salvage radical prostatectomy is associated with lower CSM is not credible. More rigorous studies are needed to confirm the result.

In particular, the success of immune checkpoint inhibitors, such as antibodies against PD-1 and PD-L1, in patients with lung cancer has increased our expectations for the success of these therapeutics as neoadjuvant immunotherapy. Neoadjuvant therapy is widely used in patients with resectable stage IIIA NSCLC and can reduce primary tumor and lymph node stage, improve the complete resection rate, and eliminate microsatellite foci; however, complete pathological response is rare. Moreover, because the clinical benefit of neoadjuvant therapy is not obvious and may complicate surgery, it has not yet entered the mainstream of clinical treatment. Small-scale clinical studies performed in recent years have shown improvements in the major pathological remission rate after neoadjuvant therapy, suggesting that it will soon become an important part of NSCLC treatment. Nevertheless, neoadjuvant immunotherapy may be accompanied by serious adverse reactions that lead to delay or cancellation of surgery, additional illness, and even death, and have therefore attracted much attention. In this article, we draw on several sources of information, including (i) guidelines on adverse reactions related to immune checkpoint inhibitors, (ii) published data from large-scale clinical studies in thoracic surgery, and (iii) practical experience and published cases, to provide clinical recommendations on adverse events in NSCLC patients induced by perioperative immunotherapy.

We aim to determine the current status of literature regarding the clinical outcomes among these minimally invasive therapies. A systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library for all English literature published from January 2001 to December 2019 was conducted to identify studies evaluating outcomes of CA, HIFU, IRE or VTP on PCa. Proportionality with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) was performed using STATA version 14.0. 56 studies consisting of 7383 participants were found to report data of interest and fulfilled the inclusion criteria in the final meta-analysis. The pooled proportions of positive biopsy after procedure were 20.0%, 24.3%, 24.2%, and 36.2% in CA, HIFU, IRE and VTP, respectively. The pooled proportions of BRFS were 75.7% for CA and 74.4% for HIFU. The pooled proportions of CSS were 96.1%, 98.2%, and 97.9% for CA, HIFU, and IRE, respectively. The pooled proportions of OS were 92.8% for CA and 85.2% for HIFU. The pooled proportions of FFS were 64.7%, 90.4%, and 76.7% for CA, IRE and VTP, respectively. The pooled proportions of MFS were 92.8% for HIFU and 99.1% for IRE. This meta-analysis shows that CA, HIFU, IRE, and VTP are promising therapies for PCa patients with similar clinical outcomes. However, further larger, well-designed randomized controlled trials are required to confirm this assertion.

Materials and Methods: PCa patients who received CA or RP between 2004 and 2015 were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard analysis was used to compare the prostate cancer-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS). We conducted 1:3 propensity score matching and adjusted standardized mortality ratio weighting (SMRW) to balance the clinicopathological characteristics. Results: Ninety-seven thousand seven hundred eighty-three patients were identified after preliminary screening. After matching, the CA and RP groups included 1,942 and 5,826 patients and had median follow-up periods of 85 and 72 months, respectively. CA had lower CSS and OS rates (hazard ratio [HR], 2.07; P = 0.007; HR, 2.09; P < 0.001, respectively) than did RP, which was consistent in the SMRW model (CSM: HR, 2.66; P < 0.001; OS: HR, 2.29; P < 0.001). The 10-years CSS and OS for CA vs. RP were 98.1 vs. 99.2% and 61.3 vs. 79.9%, respectively. Conclusions: In patients with low-to intermediate-risk localized PCa, CA had lower CSS rates than did RP. However, the high 10-years CSS rates indicated that CA could be an option for those who are not RP candidates. Further high-quality trials are needed to confirm and expand our findings.

Silver or gold nanoparticles (AgNPs or AuNPs) were formed inside P(NIPAM-co-AMPS) cryogels through the thermal reduction of absorbed AgNO 3 or HAuCl 4 , resulting in hybrid cryogels immobilized with AgNPs or AuNPs. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis and X-ray diffraction confirmed the chemical composition. Cryogel morphology and nanoparticle distribution were investigated through scanning and transmission electron microscopies. By checking swelling ratio in neutral water, the temperature response of cryogels was identified. The hybrid cryogels were used as the catalysts to reduce p-nitrophenol with NaBH 4 at different temperatures and pHs. The hybrid cryogel with AuNPs had the higher catalytic activity than the counterpart hybrid cryogel with AgNPs. The catalytic activity of hybrid cryogels increased with temperature and pH. The temperature response of cryogels facilitated their isolation from the reaction mixture. Since AuNPs were fixed tightly onto the cryogel pore-wall and hardly lost, hybrid cryogels with AuNPs demonstrated no decrease in catalytic activity for 5 cycles of p-nitrophenol reduction.

The influences of the pouring temperature, the number of curves and the serpentine channel temperature on the microstructure of semi-solid ZL101 aluminum alloy were investigated. The results show that, satisfied semi-solid slurry of ZL101 aluminum alloy was prepared with pouring at 630−680 °C. The morphology of primary α(Al) grains transforms from rosette to spheroid with the decrease of pouring temperature. At the same pouring temperature, increasing the number of curves can improve the morphology of primary α(Al) grains and decrease the grain size. Qualified slurry can be attained with lowering the pouring temperature when the serpentine channel temperature is higher. The alloy melt has the effect of "self-stirring" in the serpentine channel, which can make the primary nuclei gradually evolve into spherical and near-spherical grains.

Methods: From October 2017 to February 2018, 393 cancer patients were enrolled from three different hospitals in China. A forward and backward translation was made to develop the Mandarin (simplified) Chinese version of EORTC QLQ-OH15. The QLQ-C30 and QLQ-OH15 questionnaires (which we have assembled and named QLQ-OH45 in this paper) were self-administered. Results were statistically analysed using SPSS 21.0. The reliability and validity tests of the questionnaires were assessed by Cronbach's α coefficient, Pearson correlation test and Mann-Whitney U tests. Responsiveness to change was measured in an independent sample of patients with head and neck cancer undergoing surgery or radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Results: An acceptable internal consistency reliability for most multiple-item scales was demonstrated, as Cronbach's α coefficients were greater than 0.7 for most multiple-item scales, excepting for cognitive functioning (0.36) and oral health-related QoL functioning (0.55). All domain's test-retest reliability coefficients (r) was higher than 0.8. Multi-trait scaling analysis showed good convergent and discriminant validity. A difference in the quality of life (QoL) between older (≥65 years) and younger (<65 years) groups of patients was showed by the known-group comparisons. Low correlations were found between the scales of the QLQ-OH15 and QLQ-C30 in all areas. Conclusion: The Mandarin (simplified) Chinese version of QLQ-OH45 demonstrates satisfactory psychometric properties and can be used to measure the oral health-related QoL (OHRQoL) for Chinese cancer patients. K E Y W O R D S cancer, oral health quality of life, QLQ-C30, QLQ-OH15, validation 2 of 10 | LIU et aL. 1 | INTRODUC TI ON According to the latest Chinese cancer data, the number of newly diagnosed cancer patients in China has reached 4,292,000 in 2015 (Chen et al., 2016). The importance of QoL for patients with cancer becomes more and more pronounced with the improvement of survival rates that involves the effects of intermediate and late treatment that might affect patients' ability to work, psychological status and social activities (Ferrell, Dow, & Grant, 1995). Oral health plays an important part in the overall quality of life of each individual, though it can be badly hampered by the side effects of cancer therapies, including surgical intervention, hormonotherapy, radiotherapy and chemotherapy (Wong, 2014). These therapies can have a direct impact on the oral soft and hard tissues; in addition, as a result of local and systemic toxicity, they may also cause indirect damages (Sonis & Fey, 2002). It is estimated that 40%-70% of cancer patients experience oral side effects due to the influence of the malignancies and their treatment (Sonis, 2011; Sonis et al., 2004). These side effects include oral mucositis, mucosal and dental infections, hyposalivation, viscous oral secretions, difficulty with mastication and dysphagia, pain, taste change or taste loss, soft and hard tissue necrosis (Barker, Epstein,

However, laser beam will pose significant hazards for the health of surgeons. In order to reduce beam hazards during surgery, we compared the beam hazards of laser fiber with black sleeves to the traditional fiber with transparent sleeves, and the vaporization efficiency. A total of 18 porcine kidney specimens were vaporized in normal saline at a room temperature under 532-nm laser delivered through a 760-μm core diameter side firing fiber. Two groups were divided according to the color of fiber sleeves: the transparent and the black. Each group was then divided into another three subgroups by laser power: the 80 W group, the 120 W group, and the 160 W group. The beam hazard was evaluated by light intensity measured in a sector area at a distance of 0 m, 0.5 m, and 1 m from the irradiation center. The vaporization efficiency was measured by the vaporization groove depth under the working power o...

Data from 230 SSc EUSTAR patients from Peking Union Medical College Hospital (2009-2011) that fulfilled the 1980 American College of Rheumatology SSc classification criteria were prospectively collected. Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data were calculated between groups with and without telangiectasia, and a six-minute walk test, pulmonary function test (PFT), transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), right heart catheterisation (RHC) and modified Rodnan skin score (mRSS) were performed. 96 patients (41.7%) were diagnosed with telangiectasia. There were no significant differences between patients with and without telangiectasia based on gender, age at onset, Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) duration, or SSc classification. Disease duration both from RP onset of patients and from first non-RP manifestation of patients with telangiectasia was significantly longer t...

RHC and a simultaneous echocardiography were performed in 86 PH patients. The correlation between the echocardiographic parameters and PCWP was analyzed. The early diastolic velocity (E) of mitral valve blood flow was significantly correlated with PCWP (r = 0.36, P < 0.01). Tissue Doppler imaging measured the diastolic velocity of mitral annulus on the lateral (E'L) and the septal (E'S) wall. Then the average E'M was calculated. The ratio of E to E'L, E'S and E'M showed a strong correlation with PCWP (r = 0.62, 0.34 and 0.47 respectively, P < 0.01). E/E'L < 6 accurately predicted 100% PCWP ≤ 15 mm Hg (1 mm Hg = 0.133 kPa), and E/E'L > 15 could predict PCWP > 15 mm Hg with specificity of 98.5%. There are positive correlation between...

Cryoablation (CA), high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), irreversible electroporation (IRE), ... more Cryoablation (CA), high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), irreversible electroporation (IRE), and vascular-targeted photodynamic therapy (VTP) have been evaluated as novel strategies for selected patients with prostate cancer (PCa).

Thirty patients with CTD associated PAH were evaluated by WHO function, echocardiography, right heart catheterization and blood biomarkers. All the clinical data was analyzed statistically. All patients [age (39.5 ± 11.6) yr] were female. Both NT-proBNP and BNP were significantly increased and significantly correlated (all P < 0.05) respectively with mean pulmonary arterial pressure (r = 0.53 and r = 0.40), right arterial pressure (r = 0.55 and r = 0.42), pulmonary vascular resistance (r = 0.69 and r = 0.61), cardiac index (r = -0.58 and r = -0.46), mixed venous blood oxygen saturation (r = -0.62 and r = -0.54), pericardial effusion (r = 0.46 and r = 0.43), right atrial sizes (r = 0.40 and 0.53, and r = 0.39 and 0.45) and right ventricular size...
