In the study region as a whole the wind stress decreased by 5.4% by including currents into the wind stress equation. The most significant reduction in the wind stress is found along the most energetic regions with strong currents such as Somali Current, Equatorial Jets and Aghulhas retroflection. A highest reduction of 11.5% is observed along the equator where the Equatorial Jets prevail. A sensitivity analysis has been carried out for the study region and for different seasons to assess the relative impact of winds and currents in the estimation of wind stress by changing the winds while keeping the currents constants and vice versa. The inclusion of currents decreased the wind stress and this decrease is prominent when the currents are stronger. This study showed that equatorial Indian Ocean is the most se...

After having been exploited by colonial powers for more than a century, India, which was wealthier than England 150 years ago, is now suffering from poverty and its insufficient (or untapped) resources cannot meet the needs of its teeming millions. Although India gained its independence from the Britisn just about 30 years ago, the developmental pace of this "democratic" nation has been much slower than that of its neighboring communist country t o the North. Notwithstanding the great deal of progress that has been made since independence, much remains t o be done: the basic needs of all of its people have yet t o be met, the masses are uneducated, and the country lacks agricultural and industrial self-sufficiency. In view of this general underdevelopment, it is not particularly surprising that the needs of the mentally retarded are at the bottomof the totem pole of human priorities. Nagaraja4 has stated that "Until recently there has been no organized movement for the retarded in our country". What is surprising, perhaps, is that this same ordering of priorities exists in the affluent United States, where an average of but $6.71 per day is spent per institutionalized retarded resident!
