The clown loach Chromobotia macracanthus, also known as the tiger botia, is a species of ornament... more The clown loach Chromobotia macracanthus, also known as the tiger botia, is a species of ornamental fish included in the tribe Cobtidae. The tiger botia is native to Indonesia in Batanghari Jambi, and the Musi-Ogan watershed in South Sumatra. Genetic studies of tiger botia from Sumatra with DNA barcoding are needed for genetic conservation. This study aims to determine the nucleotide sequence of COI gene, genetic distance and provide a phylogenetic of tiger botia. These research steps were DNA isolation, DNA amplification using PCR, and sequencing of the COI gene. The results indicated that the size of DNA band was 638 bp. BLASTn showed that LK 2,3,4,5 and SK 1,2,3,5 had the highest similarity of 98.80% with Indian C. macracanthus, except for LK 3, which had 98.11%. The genetic distance was 0.000 and the phylogenetics tree had a bootstrap value of 98% againts the same genus of C. macracanthus. The water quality parameters of 2 rivers i.e, temperature

Ikan tambakan yang dibudidaya sudah dapat merespons pakan buatan yang diberikan. Namun, pemanfaatan pakan oleh ikan tambakan tersebut masih belum efisien. Hal ini menjadi permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh pembudidaya ikan, termasuk di kelompok pembudidaya ikan Fish Under Crew. Penambahan enzim papain pada pakan dapat meningkatkan kecernaan pakan sehingga ikan dapat memanfaatkan pakan lebih efisien. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini adalah mengaplikasikan penggunaan enzim papain dalam pakan buatan untuk meningkatkan kecernaan pakan dan pengaruhnya terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi ikan tambakan. The aim of this research was to know optimal feeding rate for growth, survival rate, food convert... more The aim of this research was to know optimal feeding rate for growth, survival rate, food convertion, protein efficiency ratio, protein retention and lipid retention of Pangasius djambal fingerlings (weight 3.5-4.0 g). This experiment was done from Maret until May 2007, at Jambi Freshwater Aquaculture Development Center. This experiment used four treatments at feeding rate 2.50%, 5.00%, 7.50% and 10.00% of fish body weight. The result of research showed that the feeding rate 10.0% of fish body weight gave the highest value for daily growth rate 4.11%. the feeding rate 5.0% of body weight wasn’t different in daily growth rate until 7.50% of fish body weight significantly and gave food cenvertion efficiently until 1.35. The feeding rate 2.50% of fish body weight had the highest value for protein efficiency ratio (2.49), protein retention (153.70%) and lipid retention (175.31%). The aim of this research was to know the effect of different feeding time duration on survival and growth rate of snakehead fed by black cumin challenged by A.hydrophila. This research conducted from August until September 2015 in Laboratorium Budidaya Perairan, Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. The research method used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with seven treatments and three replications : P1(fed without black cumin during 30 days no challenged), P2 (fed without black cumin during 30 days challenged by A. hydrophila), P3 (fed contain black cumin during 30 days no challenged), P4 (fed contain black cumin during 30 days challenged by A. hydrophila), P5 (fed contain black cumin during 21 days challenged by A. hydrophila), P6 (fed contain black cumin during 14 days challenged by A.hydrophila), and P7 (fed contain black cumin during 30 days challenged by A. hydrophila). The result of the research showed that snakehead fed by black cumin during 14 days (P6) challenged by A. hydrophila showed the highest value of survival rate, and growth, each sequentially were 93.33%, 5.28 g, and 1.32 cm.

The frequency of flushing on coconut charcoal and sponge filters by Recirculation Aquaculture Sys... more The frequency of flushing on coconut charcoal and sponge filters by Recirculation Aquaculture System (RAS) can apply to maintain water quality. This research was conducted on Laboratorium Dasar Perikanan, Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University from March to May 2017. The study used Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment were using filter flushing every week (P1), 2 weeks (P2), 3 weeks (P3) and without leaching (P4). The parameters observed were temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), turbidity, total dissolved solids (TDS) and ammonia. The results showed that the flushingfrequency gave of the filter has a positive effect on water quality parameters. Treatment P2 has resulting better water quality such as temperature (28.3-29.2), pH (6.9-7.2), DO (1.11 mg.L-1), Turbidity (0.00 NTU), TDS (22.33 mg.L-1), ammonia (0.020 mg.L-1), survival rate 83.33%, absolute growth (0.93 cm for lenght and 0.58 g for weight).

Spirulina platensis is a blue-green microalga or cyanobacteria producing several bioactive compou... more Spirulina platensis is a blue-green microalga or cyanobacteria producing several bioactive compounds such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) which is important in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries as an antioxidant for free radical scavenger. To produce SOD in S. platensis biomass efficiently, it is necessary to define an optimum medium composition consisting of mineral salts and organic complex from serum latex. The alga was cultured on medium containing latex serum with and without mineral suplementation, and on a synthetic medium of Aiba and Ogawa as a reference. The culture was illuminated with 20 W TL lamp at room temperature (28-32 oC) for two months. The growth was observed by measuring absorbance at 480 nm, while SOD activity was determinated by measuring red color of azo dye stuff at 540 nm equivalent to SOD inhibition of hydroxylamine oxidation. Research result showed that the best growth was obtained on serum latex medium, followed by serum latex with mineral supplementation, and synthetic medium. A maximum SOD activity in biomass was achieved in S. platensis culturing on serum latex medium illuminated with 20 W TL lamp at room temperature (28-32 oC) for 28-days period. The SOD activity of the microalga was the same as SOD activity in imported Spirulina biomass. The SOD from S. platensis was possibly Zn-SOD isoform type since it is quite sensitive against cyanide and its molecule contains higher concentration of Zn compared to that of Mn, Fe, and Cu.
