Foxtail millet, as a multi-purpose product, has nutritious and medicinal potentials. This research is aimed at identifying combined markers as well as stable associations between such markers and the investigated agronomic traits in a wide range of foxtail millet germplasms under normal and salinity-stress conditions. In this context, association analysis has been conducted among 14 agronomic traits and 331 polymorphic AFLP markers generated by 12 primer combinations in 134 foxtail millet genotypes. Based on the analysis of population structure, the foxtail millet genotypes were divided into six subpopulations. The results showed that a number of markers had stable and significant associations under both normal and salinity-stress conditions with agronomic traits. The primer combinations had high polymorphic percentage, di...

Hence, 76 genotypes with unknown origin and 34 known cultivars from several Citrus species were analyzed by SSR and AFLP markers. Overall, 326 alleles and 545 polymorphic bands were respectively scored for 28 SSR loci and 25 AFLP primer-enzyme combinations. The results of various analyses accomplished with SSR markers were in agreement with AFLP. Accordingly, the true species of citron, mandarin, and pummelo were nested into separate groups. In the studied germplasm, we succeeded in tracking three cryptic origin genomes (2 in SSR and 1 in AFLP analysis) which were distinct from 3 true species, and, interestingly, they contributed to the genetic composition of some control cultivars. The results suggested that the interspecific hybridization and genetic introgression were the main determinants of the Citrus genotypes genetic composition. Hereupon, the shar...

PCR amplifications were performed using primers designed on the nucleotide sequence of three plastid barcode genes, comprising two protein encoding genes (rbcL and matK) and an intragenic spacer (trnH-psbA), and a nuclear region (ITS). A total of 52 sequences were obtained and registered in NCBI database. In particular, 21 of these sequences were not present in the scientific library. Nucleotide polymoprhic sites were counted for each barcode gene (rbcL, n = 16; matK, n = 15; trnH-psbA, n = 46; ITS, n = 71). Each sample could be distinguished from the others in the phylogenic trees developed based on the data obtained by single barcode gene. In addition, a phylogenic tree based only on plastid information (trnH-psbA + rbcL + matK) and another created on the data resulting from both nuclear and plastid genome...

Two genotypes Poncirus and Mexican lime (as cold tolerant and cold susceptible, respectively) were used as control genotypes. Electrolyte leakage, leaf water soaking, and lipid peroxidation had increasing trends with the decrease of temperature. On the other hand, for tolerance criteria (antioxidant capacity, proline content, total carbohydrates, and enzymatic activities) sigmoidal trends were recorded. For electrolyte leakage and leaf water soaking, Poncirus, Satsuma mandarin, and the unknown biotype G8 had the smallest range of mean variation at four stress temperatures. Also, for lipid peroxidation, Siavaraz 1, Satsuma mandarin, and sour orange had the lowest range of change. Proline content evaluat...

Hence, 121 barley landraces, advanced breeding lines and varieties were evaluated under both moisture non-stress and stress field conditions using a lattice square (11×11) design with two replications for each set of trials. Twelve drought tolerance indices (SSI, TOL, MP, GMP, STI, YI, YSI, HM, SDI, DI, RDI and SSPI) were used based on grain yield under normal (Yp) and drought (Ys) conditions. Analysis of variance showed a significant genetic variation among genotypes for all indices with the exception of TOL and SSPI indices. Yp had a very strong association with Ys (r=0.92**) that indicates high yield potential under non-stress can predict better yield under stress conditions. Yp and Ys were positively and significantly correlated with MP, GMP, STI, YI, HM and DI indices, whereas they were negatively correlated with SSI and SDI. In principal component a...

Fiori, is a nutritionally and medicinally important desert tree, which is constantly exposed to drought stress. This study was accomplished to alleviate the adverse effects of drought stress on M. peregrina populations through the foliar application of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) by monitoring some physiological and biochemical alterations. Methods: Moringa peregrina seeds were collected from the Southeast of Iran in 2014. Fourteen days after germination, the seedlings were subjected to drought stress by withholding watering until 50% field capacity (FC), followed by spraying 0.1% and 0.05% ZnO-NPs and no spraying (as control). Results: The changes of sodium (Na), potassium (K), chlorophylls, total phenolic content (TPC) as well as antioxidant activity under drought stress condition varied based on M. peregrina populations. Drought stress significantly reduced chlorophylls content, while it enhanced TPC and antioxidant activity. ZnO-N...

The aim of the present study is ITS molecular evaluation of the nuclear ribosomal genes of lines and landraces of Persian Clover. The sequences were aligned using ClustalW method and by MegAlign software and the dendrogram of different phylogenetic and matrix relationships between the sequences were drawn. The results showed little genetic diversity between the lines and the landrace. The conserved sequence of the analyzed gene in the Persian clover is 561 base. Totally, 740 loci (69 and 671 loci, respectively, with and without removal and addition), 9 Singletons, and 5 haplotypes were identified. The highest rate of transfer was observed in pyrimidine (%16.3). The numerical value of the ratio (dN/dS) was 0.86, and since it was less than 1, the pure selection on the studied gene happened. The lines and landraces were not separated based on their geographic locations. In general, the results indicated that the highest rate of the regional diversity belonged to the clover plants in Lorestan region. Moreover, ITS markers did not seem suitable enough for evaluating the intra-species genetic variation, but it was quite well-suited for inter-species or intergeneric evaluation.

However, there are sub-optimal levels of the essential amino acids, methionine and cysteine. On the other hand, P. vulgaris accumulates large amounts of the γ-glutamyl dipeptide of S-methylcysteine, and lower levels of free S-methylcysteine and S-methylhomoglutathione. Past results suggest two distinct metabolite pools. Free S-methylcysteine levels are high at the beginning of seed development and decline at mid-maturation, while there is a biphasic accumulation of γ-glutamyl-S-methylcysteine, at early cotyledon and maturation stages. A possible model involves the formation of S-methylcysteine by cysteine synthase from O-acetylserine and methanethiol, whereas the majority of γ-glutamyl-S-methylcysteine may arise from S-methylhomoglutathione. Metabolite profiling during development and in genotypes differing in total S-methylcysteine accumulation showed that γ-glutamyl-S-methylcysteine ...

Fiori as a desert tree has economic, nutritional, and medicinal properties, and is constantly encountered with drought stress. In addition, the role of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) in regulating the drought stress which induces biochemical processes is uncertain in this plant. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the biochemical alternations, namely, enzymatic and osmoprotectant which are induced by ZnO-NPs in ten populations of M. peregrina under drought stress. Materials and Methods: Moringa peregrina seeds were collected from southeast of Iran in 2014. The young plants were exposed to drought stress by withholding irrigation (until 50% filed capacity [FC]) 40 days after germination followed by spraying 0 (as control), 0.05, and 0.1% of the ZnO-NPs. Results: The alternations of Na/K ratio, enzymes activities, and osmoprotectant content varied under drought stress depending on the M. peregrina populations. Generally, drought str...

The AGAMOUS is a key gene in compactness of the Yaghooti grape clusters because of its influence on GA (gibberellin hormone) gene expression. When the harvesting time of clusters is near, nucleus, cytoplasmic, cytosol, membrane and chloroplast genes activity are decreased and endoplasmic reticulum, vacuole and extracellular region genes activity are increased in cluster peduncle and pedicels.

Therefore, germplasm collection is the first step for plant improvement. To investigate their genetic and morphological relationships, 10 morphological traits of 20 genotypes of local cucumbers were evaluated using 9 SSR primers. A high genetic variability was observed for the number of flowers per plant. The values of the Jaccard similarity coefficient ranged between 0.51 and 0.92, indicating a high diversity of the genotypes. To evaluate the genetic similarity among genotypes, a cluster analysis using the UPGMA method was performed based on the Jaccard similarity coefficient. The average genetic distance between genotypes (using the Jaccard similarity coefficient) was 0.74 and the mean polymorphic information content (PIC) was 0.69. The primer SSR13251 had the highest PIC (0.8). The clustering pattern of the SSR markers did not coincide with the groupings based on quantitati...
