Regional yield trials with 20 entries were planted in Diyarbakır, Hazro and Ceylanpınar in southeast Anatolia in the 2004/ 2005 growing season. A randomized complete block design with four replications was employed. Grain samples from each location were subjected to quality analyses, and then presented to randomly selected grain purchasers with the local commodity market for market price estimations.

The study aimed to assess some agronomic characteristics of 120 advanced durum wheat lines obtained from CIMMYT (The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center), ICARDA (International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas), APUTAEM (GAP International Agricultural Research and Training Center) and five control varieties (Artuklu, Eyyubi, Güneyyıldızı, Şahinbey and Zenit). Field trial was carried out in the experimental field of GAP International Agricultural Research Institute at Diyarbakır, Turkey, in 2015-2016 growing season. Experiment was conducted via augmented experimental design consisting of six blocks which has twenty five plots with five controls. The examined traits was traits was divided into groups at physiological (canopy temperature, flag leaf chlorophyll content, leaf area index at anthesis, grain filling duration and grain filling rate), phenological (plant emergence time, heading time, anthesis time and physiological maturity time), morphological (leaf glaucusness, leaf erectness, plant height and spike length) and yieldforming parameters (spike number, spikelet number, grain number, spike grain weight and grain yield). There was statistically significant difference between genotypes in all traits except canopy temperature. Correlation analysis showed a positive and significant correlation between yield and spike grain weight. As a result of the research, it was determined that 13 lines (5, 16, 18, 3, 34, 41, 42, 50, 52, 85, 92, 94 and 114) showing superior features than control cultivar in terms of different characteristics was selected and transferred to the advanced stages of breeding studies.

The study was carried out in the Sanl?urfa commodity market in the autumn of 2005 in Sanl?urfa and Diyarbakir in 2015 and Sanliurfa, Ad?yaman and Gaziantep local commodity markets in 2017. The seven barley grain samples were prepared (100% White [W], 10% Black [B]+90% White [W], 20%B+80%W, 30%B+70%W, 40%B+60%W, 50%B+50%W and 100% Black) and presented to four randomly selected grain purchasers in all commodity markets and marketing price offers were scored. Increasing ratios of black-hulled barley (BHB) reduced marketing price gradually in 2005. In 2015, marketing prices were 0.337 US$ kg-1 for white and 0.365 US$ kg-1 for black in Sanliurfa and 0.334 US$ kg-1 for white and 0.352 US$ kg-1 for black barley in Diyarbakir. In 2017, except for Ad?yaman, marketing price offers were in favour of BHB and it received 0.37 US$ kg-1 and 0.321 ...

Farmer field trials were carried out in two neighbouring fields planted with Yerli K?rm?z? (landrace) and Firat-87 varieties of lentil employing a split-plot experimental design in the Yollar basi location of Viransehir in the 2018-2019 crop growing season. Lentil varieties were placed into main plots and the broomrape infestations (i.e. 0, 5, 10, and 15 plants m-2) in the subplots respectively. Grain yield, hectolitre weights and 1000-kernel weights and protein contents (%) were scored. All grain samples were presented to randomly chosen grain purchasers in the local commodity market and marketing price offers were scored respectively. Results showed that broomrape infestation from zero to 15 broomrapes m-2 reduced the grain yield significantly...

Field studies were carried out in historically known infested farmer fields to assess the effects of seed gall nematode (Anguina tritici [Steinbuch]) on grain yield, quality and marketing price of durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) in the wheat production region of Viranşehir, Anatolia, Turkey during 2008/2009 growing season. Grain yield losses due to A. tritici were reported up to 32%. Seed gall severity corresponded with a decrease in number of grain spike-1 , grain weight spike-1 , test weight (kg hl-1) and 1000 kernel weight (g). However, the SDS protein content (%) was not affected by increase in seed galls. The price of durum wheat per tonne was reduced from 335 to 297 USD$ with increasing A. tritici contamination (from 5 to 20%). This could be explained by a significant negative regression with grain price against A. tritici (P ≤ 0.01; R 2 = 80.2%). A. tritici has a potential to be one of the major biotic constraints in the irrigated wheat production regions of Anatolia as both yield and grain price were affected. The use of clean seeds should assist in effective control and careful monitoring is a must.
