In valves, it is prominently used to hold the valve on its seat against the fluid pressure. Function of a relief valve depends mainly on the sealing force offered by the valve springs. The operational accuracy of a relief valve depends on the sensitivity and linearity of response of the spring against the fluid pressure. In the presented work sensitivity analysis of the spring used for the relief valve is attempted. Two springs of various coil diameters and wire diameter are designed using a MATLAB code. They are manufactured with Spring steel IS 4454 Gr. II material and tested for their accuracy to operate against set pressure. Both designs are tested by varying force and measuring corresponding deflection values. The degree of nonlinearity and sensitivity for both designs is quantified.

In handling of cut fabrics involved in composite manufacturing methods, due to the unconstrained nature of the fabric edges, they are susceptible to fraying and disorientation. This can be avoided by use of robotic grippers, that do not use positive locking, or high vacuum pressures. One such gripping method may be electro-adhesion, where localized charge distribution aids in polarizing the fabric which in turn is attracted to the gripper. This paper analyses the ponderomotive pressure developed by such a gripper for a range of values for the number of electrode pairs and the electrode lengths. Optimization of parameters for maximizing the ponderomotive pressure in the constrained contact area of gripper is needed. Two test geometry cases of the picked fabric are considered, to observe the performance of the gripper in picking large sheets, as well as small cut fabrics. The best...

The main task in developing an operating Scramjet is to achieve the combustion in a supersonic stream over the complete flight range and all operating conditions. In the presented work simulation of combustor geometry with strut injection behind a rearward facing step is done for which the experimental results are available. A commercially available CFD package, STAR-CD is used to do the simulation. Certain characteristics of the combustor geometry like flame holding, mixing and static pressure are studied by plotting usual XY graphs and contour plots. Typical inlet condition for a Scramjet flight of Mach 6 is considered for the analysis, i.e. a total temperature of 1500 K and total pressure of 1 X 106 Pa. Cases with only air flow, with non reacting hydrogen injection and with equivalence ratio of 0.34 and 0.52 are simulated. Inviscid analysis of the ‘only air’ flow through the combustor provides basic idea of the shock structure existing inside the combustor and especially that around the strut region. In the viscid analysis of ‘only air’ case, top wall static pressure plots are observed to be matching closely with the existing experimental results. Also the results for equivalence ratio of 0.34 are seen to match with the experimental case. This validates the results and encourages for further analysis with higher equivalence ratio.

Normal person can travel easily by utilizing the facilities such as bicycles, bikes, cars, public transports, etc., but for disabled persons travelling is not so easy. Depending upon the disability (i.e. which part of body is not in function), disabled person can avail travelling facilities such as tricycles, wheelchairs, customized vehicles like bikes, cars, buses etc. But these facilities are not easily accessible for disabled persons due to some difficulties like limitation on distance travelled in case of automated wheelchairs, more physical work for user in case of manual wheelchair and tricycles. Then Retrofitted bikes are much easy and suitable option for those who can easily get into the riders place but persons with severe leg disability are unable to come out from wheelchair and get into the riders position. This problem is solved in case of modified cars and buses as there is provision to get in and ...

Due to its industrial relevance, understanding and predicting the performance of droplet separator in terms of pressure loss and collection efficiency is important. The currently used mathematical models for the prediction of droplet separator Performance exhibit limited accuracy. An alternative approach is to simulate the gas-droplet flow field in a droplet separator profiles by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). As a result of the recent progress of computational power and numerical techniques, CFD has been widely applied to industrial flow problems. There are various equipments used for liquid gas separation for example cyclones, vane type separators, packed bed separators, scrubbers etc. As the main focus is to reduce pressure drop and increase collection efficiency (removing micro size droplets from air stream) vane-type separator are promising alternative. ...

The challenge was to achieve complete combustion at supersonic flow and to generate the required thrust for given inlet flow conditions. Research is still going on so as to attain the necessary mixing and efficient combustion inside a scramjet combustor. Performance parameter like total pressure loss across the scramjet combustor is one of the crucial parameters and has to be minimized. Factors such as equivalence ratio, inlet flow conditions affect the combustion process and hence the useful thrust. Also, the fuel injection configuration plays a vital role in mixing and thus on the performance of a scramjet combustor. Over the recent years numerical simulation has been acknowledged as a promising tool for investigation of Scramjet flow. In this work, the investigation of effect of injector configuration has been carried out using a commercial CFD tool. Validation of initial numerical results is done w...

This is a situation, which was never ever faced by the world of education. Only ‘Information Technology’ is going to be a promising solution to this problem, Computers have changed the way we have been working and the way we were living...We will use IT to encourage pupils to learn more independently, to learn actively. The paper is an overview of some aspects related to the implementation of the IT in education”
