Nevertheless, some communities are less receptive to entrepreneurship education than others, which hurts the economic potential of their members. This paper focuses on the community of artists, whose members rarely self-identify as entrepreneurs, despite the many similarities between entrepreneurship and artistic careers. This has triggered the creation of educational programs offered by arts incubators aiming to increase the entrepreneurial mindset and awareness among artists. The novelty of these programs explains the absence of metrics to measure the efficacy of their educational offerings on the entrepreneurial awareness among artists. This study proposes a new methodology to assess the impact of arts incubators’ entrepreneurial programs. Based on social theory, the methodology measures the awareness thr...

Different models and methods of education are applied to the complex phenomena of arts incubators; therefore, it is crucial to measure the effectiveness of education programs from many different perspectives. Our aim is to propose a metric that can estimate the effect of each incubator activity based on the geospatial distribution of its participants. This GISbased metric will provide a descriptive measure for the quantity and density of the geographical communities affected by the incubator's activity as well as socioeconomic and demographic benchmarks. Our study investigates fourteen USbased arts incubators that offer entrepreneurial training to their associated 1,087 incubatees. The goal of this study is to provide a metric that can assist arts incubators, program directors, arts administrators, and university programs in assessing program growth and funding and marketing efforts.

However, creation and development of new patents and technologies do not automatically ensure value creation. The key challenge is to discover and exploit the opportunity of new products or services through the entrepreneurial process. The focus of this research is to explore the effect of entrepreneurial alertness on the corporate environment to provide knowledge about the mechanism of opportunity detection. A mix of individual traits and organizational factors is explored surveying CEOs and Executive Managers of 276 SMEs. The findings provide evidence of a two-level process through the corporate environment.

More specifically, we develop a conceptual model of the impact of intrafirm and inter-firm social capital on the performance and evolution of MSS firms. This model aims to explain the great performance differences between MSS firms in different regions of the world. We thus explore the social fabric in which software companies are embedded, affecting their growth and development in the market. Unlike existing theoretical models of social capital, the current theoretical framework proposed in this paper a) decomposes social capital based on the nature of interfirm and intra-firm social ties, b) includes the firm leaders' uncertainty avoidance as a precursor of the nature of firm social ties, and c) includes the national culture dimension of individualism/collectivism as an important moderator of the effect of in...

Based on longitudinal data collected from the comprehensive R archive network (CRAN), we empirically examine how the network of R packages evolves over time and exert its influence on the scientific community. We find that critical network features derived from CRAN, such as pagerank, closeness, and betweenness centralities, play a significant role in determining the impact of each package on the research and publication activities in the scientific community. Furthermore, the performance of R packages can be explained as a flow of information from the core to the periphery that exhibits strong spillover effects.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the role of the firm’s strategic posture in the relationship between individual alertness and opportunity identification within an existing firm. This approach contributes to entrepreneurship theory building through a multilevel study. Design/methodology/approach The quantitative research focuses on understanding the mediating role of an organization’s strategic posture in the opportunity identification process. Using a sample of 276 firms, this study tests a two-level model to explain opportunity identification. Findings The findings provide empirical evidence that a firm’s strategic posture mediates the relationship between individual alertness and opportunity identification. Furthermore, this study finds differences in the mediating role of a firm’s strategic posture through which entrepreneurs an...
