A leader in every organization is a must. A leader in a company is called a manager. The managers... more A leader in every organization is a must. A leader in a company is called a manager. The managers hold a very important position in the company. They are responsible for the people or groups of people underneath, including being responsible for their work or performance. To have employees with good performance, managers must pay attention to factors that make employees be able to have good performance. There are external and internal factors that affect employee’s performance. Internal factors are factors related to individual’s character. While external factors are factors related to the surrounding environment. One of the external factors is the behavior, attitudes, and actions of a leader. These factors are related to the role of managers. From the ten manager roles mentioned by Henry Mintzberg (1989), the authors found that there are at least six manager roles that had a significant influence on improving employee’s performance. The six roles are figurehead, leader, monitor, disseminator, entrepreneur; and disturbance handler. This study aims to explain the important role of managers in improving employee performance. The method used in completing this research is the literature study method.
