Heuristic evaluation is performed to improve and optimise the implemented prototypes. The study methods, involving expert reviews, are presented as well as the results, i.e., the usability of the tools as revealed by heuristic evaluation. The detailed results of heuristic evaluation are delivered to the partner in question but are not reported in the deliverable due to the confidential nature of them. Instead, the conclusion of each heuristic evaluation is provided by hiding the company and tool name. This way the general level of the usability of the SPHERE tools can be verified. At the same time, the energy transition is quickly spreading and its value to society becoming clearer. Two main obstacles to this transition, rigid policy and lack of local understanding, are particularly troubling on islands, where national policies often aren’t flexible enough to consider local particularities and residents are exposed to different energy realities from those on the mainland. Using exploratory interviews and a survey on four islands, this article considers island residents’ awareness of energy transition concepts and presents how it interacts with, and is potentially influenced by, relevant energy policies at the national level. The
paper presents the comparative results for the geographically, demographically and climatologically diverse islands of Gotland (Sweden), Lesvos (Greece), La R´eunion (France) and Mallorca (Spain) to focus on European island energy transitions. Differences were noted between the islands’ residents with regards to awareness of and willingness to use specific energy transition tools or to join activities like energy communities. Additionally, differences were noted between the islands for what was the most important reason to consider when using demand response, though ‘Ease of use’ was important across all. The potential reasons for differences among the islands are discussed and suggestions to increase consumer engagement with energy transition
activities on islands are given. Overall, the results show that while awareness of energy concepts isn’t greater on these European islands, interest in prospective transition actions was high and provide an opportunity for planners to capitalize on. However, if there are potential policy obstacles, these higher levels of interest cannot ensure higher levels of willingness to engage. Taken together, these two findings indicate the potential for an acceleration of transition activity on these islands, and potentially beyond, should engagement with island residents be increased along with review, and amendment of policies impeding it.

Participants were introduced to the personas tool and encouraged to use it in their work in technical development. Methods: A questionnaire was delivered three months after presentation and explanation of the remote tool, inquiring about benefits, drawbacks, intention of using personas in the future, and the role of usage related information as a whole in technical development. Results: Previous knowledge about the tool, perceptions of the tool and its actual use seemed to influence developers in their decision to use it or not. Conclusions: Almost half of the organizations in our study use real user-centric design methods in their technical development; this can ease the path for wider adoption of the methods when needed. One possible solution to strengthen the understanding and adoption of the user-centric methods is to spread information among technical d...

The design of IT systems has traditionally been viewed as a technical activity. However, unlike existing types of IT systems, an organization's web site is available to the general public, and as such needs to be designed in a different manner, with far more emphasis on presentation and ease of use than existing types of IT systems. This is necessary since if the web site is not appealing to the user they can simply choose another web site, and potential customers or clients are lost. Hence, students need to be taught how to incorporate both artistic and scientific aspects when designing a web site.

Backfilling is a technique to address the above problem. Most backfilling algorithms are based on CPU information and have large room for improvements with considering other resource information. The K-resource aware scheduling algorithm Backfill Balanced (BB) selects backfill job which can best balance the usage of all resources and achieve better performance compared with the classical backfilling algorithm. However, BB does not realize that small jobs' impacts on resource utilization are negligible and they mainly contribute to reduce the average response time. Here we propose the IBB algorithm, which utilizes the characteristics of small jobs to guide a better job selection. We implemented IBB on HTCondor to improve its performance. Experiments results show that IBB can provide up to 60% performance gains in most performance metrics compared with BB.
