Such concerns have been attributed to the adverse effect of information shared via media outlets. Here, a survey was undertaken among nonhealthcare professionals to find out the adverse effect of media on self-medication for treating COVID-19.Methods: A questionnaire-based survey was conducted electronically among nonmedical professionals (270 respondents). The questionnaire comprised three main components: demographic, education, and factor for self-medication. Statistical analysis of the data was made using analysis of variance to determine the degree of agreement between the response of participants with education below and above graduation. Results and conclusion: Most of the respondents agreed that they get information about the COVID-19 medicines from different media. However, most of them do not visit the reliable source like World Health Organization (WHO) w...

The reason for losing lives may be due to the unpreparedness of the health care system of India for this unprecedented pandemic. To assess the government’s preparedness an Institutional based cross-sectional prospective survey was conducted among the adult population of selected states in India. A self-administered questionnaire having 30-item divided into five sections (demography of the participants, step to create awareness, prevent spread of infection, handle the emergency and prognosis) was distributed online through google survey. The responses were collected in an excel file. SPSS software was used to perform the descriptive statistics and ANOVA. Nearly a quarter of the participants strongly disagree/disagree about the government’s preparedness for the 3rd wave. Considering their perception it cannot be assured that government is well prepared to handle the emergency. So the government has ...

Conspiracy theories and misinformation on vaccines have been rampant during the COVID-19 pandemic and are considered significant drivers of vaccine hesitancy. Since vaccine hesitancy can undermine efforts to immunize the population against COVID-19 and interferes with the vaccination rate, this study aimed to ascertain the COVID-19-vaccine-related conspiracy beliefs, vaccine hesitancy, views regarding vaccine mandates, and willingness to pay for vaccines among the general population. A web-based, cross-sectional survey was conducted (April–August 2021) among the adult population in six countries (Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, India, Malaysia, Sudan, and Egypt). Participants were recruited using an exponential, non-discriminate snowball sampling method. A validated self-completed electronic questionnaire was used for the data collection. All the participants responded to questions on various domains of the study...

Poor solubility is often associated with poor dissolution behavior and, subsequently, poor bioavailability for those drugs when intestinal absorption is dissolution rate limited. In the present study electrospun polymeric nanofibers were developed to address the poor aqueous solubility of ibuprofen, a Biopharmaceutic Classification System (BCS) class-II drug. Hydrophilic spinnable polymers like polyvinyl pyrrolidone were deployed as a carrier system for the fabrication of nanofibers. The electrospinning parameters like flow rate, voltage, and spinneret to collector distance were optimized. The fabricated ibuprofen-loaded nanofibers were characterized using scanning electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. Drug release studies and ex vivo intestinal absorption studies were also carried out. The nanofiber-based platform significa...

Methods: A rubric was prepared to evaluate the students’ psychomotor performance and attitude in compounding and dispensing. The rubric was applied by the teacher, the students themselves, and their classmates instead of the earlier used dichotomous checklist. Scores were compared pre- and post-implementation of the rubric. The students’ learning experience and outcomes were assessed through regular course evaluation surveys. Results: Student performance was improved from the baseline to the mid and end of term. The number of harmful scorings was reduced, and the number of admissible scorings was increased. Conclusion: The pharmaceutical compounding rubric showed to be a quantitative evaluation instrument for teachers. It also helped identify the challenging areas. The implementation of the rubric helped minimise errors.

In Saudi Arabia, the estimated percentage of Saudis who abuse drugs is around 7–8% and the age range is 12–22 years. Methamphetamine, captagon, tramadol, heroin, and cannabis/cannabinoids have been proven to be the most commonly abused drugs in Saudi Arabia, with methamphetamine being at the top of the list. The present study focuses on the chromatographic analytical methods used for the analysis of methamphetamine in combination with commonly abused drugs, aiming to point out the greenest among them. These mixtures have been chosen as they are analyzed periodically and frequently in criminal evidence and forensic medicine. Therefore, the chances of hazards for analysts and the environment are high if the mixtures are not handled appropriately. This study aims to compare 23 chromatographic methods used for the analysis of methamphetamine m...

The AGREE tool has the ability to determine the greenness of analytical methods in terms of both quality and quantity, whereas other commonly used methods assess the greenness either quantitatively or qualitatively. Greenness profiles of six chromatographic methods for simultaneous estimations of serotonin, dopamine, acetylcholine, GABA and glutamate were assessed using AGREE and NEMI tools as a case study. The AGREE assessment tool proved to be user-friendly, and provides a full profile of assessment, hence it can be described as the tool of choice for the assessment of LC-MS chromatographic methods. For optimum application, the weights of 4 of the 12 assessment criteria were set high (weight of four) due to their importance, namely criteria number 7 (waste), number 8 (analysis thruput/number of analytes per run), number 11 (toxicity) and number 12 (op...

The method has advantages over the old published methods in terms of simplicity and sensitivity. A Phenomenex ODS stationary phase in an isocratic elution system, with a running mobile phase containing 0.2M Ammonium acetate (controlled to pH 3.5 via diluted H 3 PO 4 acid), methanol, and acetonitrile (50: 30: 20, by volume) was applied for optimum resolution conditions. The rate of the mobile phase was controlled at 0.6 mL per minute while the detection wavelength was set at 270.0 nm. The total time for the analysis was approximately 15 min. Chromatographic peaks for LAM, ZID, and NEV were eluted at 5.5, 7.8, and 11.1 min, correspondingly. Linearity ranges for LAM, ZID, and NEV were 12.00-84.00, 24.00-168.00, and 16.00-112.00 μg/mL, correspondingly. The method was validated in line with ICH procedures. The Greenness scores for the new and earlier reported three methods were calculated and compared using the automated AGREE and GAPI tool. The total AGREE greenness score of 0.63 and GAPI pictogram reflect the eco-friendly character of the new method which is at par with the earlier reported methods, but it is simpler with higher sensitivity.
