Its correct assessment and evaluation in the population is mandatory. Our objectives were: Confirm factor structure of Dating Violence Questionnaire (DVQ) and investigate its convergent and divergent validity. The DVQ along with other personality measures were filled by a sample of 418 university students (Females = 310) of average age of 23 y.o. (SD = 4.71). A subsample of participants (223 students) consented in being involved also in retest and filled also the Revised Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (short form) and a brief scale for describing the behavior of the (past) partner after the breaking of the relationship (BRS). The 8-factor structure, with respect to the two other competing models, reported better fit indexes and showed significant correlations with other personality measures. Personality traits, both Neuroticism and Psychoticism, correlated with Sexual Violence, while Detachment correlated only with Neuroticism and Coercion, Humiliation and Physical Violence correlated with only Psychoticism. Extraversion did not report significant relationships with any of the 8 DVQ factors. Also the predictive validity of DVQ was satisfactory with the partner violent reaction to the break of relationship predicted positively predicted by Coercion (b = 0.22) and by Humiliation (b = 0.20) and negatively by Emotional Punishment (b = -0.18). The present results indicate a good factor structure of the questionnaire, and interesting correlations with personality traits, allowing to identify psychological aspects with a predisposing role for anti-social aggressive behaviors. Further studies will be aimed at ascertaining other possible determinants of intimate partner violence and the weight of cultural aspects.

We examined 24 right-handed patients diagnosed as uncomplicated probable Parkinson's disease (PD). Each patient underwent Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS)-part-III evaluation before and 60 min after an oral load of L-dopa-methyl-ester/carbidopa 250/25 mg. Resting condition eyes-closed EEG data were recorded both pre- and post L-dopa load. Absolute EEG power values were calculated at each scalp derivation for Delta, Theta, Alpha and Beta frequency bands. UPDRS scores (both global and subscale scores) and EEG data (power values of different frequency bands for each scalp derivation) were submitted to a statistical analysis to compare Pre and Post L-Dopa conditions. Finally, a correlation analysis was carried out between EEG spectral content and UPDRS scores. Considering EEG power spectral ana...

On the other hand, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is a recently developed magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based technique with the capability to detect brain structural connection with fractional anisotropy (FA) identification. FA decrease has been observed in the corpus callosum of subjects with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI, an AD prodromal stage). Corpus callosum splenium DTI abnormalities are thought to be associated with functional disconnections among cortical areas. This study aimed to investigate possible correlations between structural damage, measured by MRI-DTI, and functional abnormalities of brain integration, measured by characteristic path length detected in resting state EEG source activity (40 participants: 9 healthy co...

During the daytime, a baseline session of motor evoked potentials (MEPs) was recorded. During the nighttime, the TMS sessions were administered just before sleep onset and upon awakenings from REM and stage 2 sleep, both in the early and final part of night. The sleep research laboratory at the University of Rome "La Sapienza." Ten right-handed subjects participated in the experiment for 4 consecutive sleep-recording nights. N/A. During the daytime, a robust transcallosal inhibition was found; the MEP amplitude reduction ranged from 35% to 40%. During the nighttime, a decrease of transcallosal inhibition from right-to-left motor cortex, as compared to that from left-to-right motor cortex, was observed. The direct assessment of MEP changes, as a function of sleep stage and of the time ...

Indeed, functional abnormalities of the brain are found to be associated with pathological changes in connectivity and network structures. The aim of the present study was to explore the interictal network properties of EEG signals from temporal lobe structures in the context of fronto-temporal lobe epilepsy. To complete this aim, the graph characteristics of the EEG data of 17 patients suffering from focal epilepsy of the fronto-temporal type, recorded during interictal periods, were examined and compared in terms of the affected versus the unaffected hemispheres. EEG connectivity analysis was performed using eLORETA software in 15 fronto-temporal regions (Brodmann Areas BAs 8, 9, 10, 11, 20, 21, 22, 37, 38, 41, 42, 44, 45, 46, 47) on both affected and unaffected hemispheres. The evaluation of the graph analysis parameters, such as 'global' (characteristic path length) and 'local' connectivity (clustering coefficient) showed a statistically significant interaction among side (affected and unaffected hemisphere) and Band (delta, theta, alpha, beta, gamma). Duncan post hoc testing showed an increase of the path length in the alpha band in the affected hemisphere with respect to the unaffected one, as evaluated by an inter-hemispheric marker. The affected hemisphere also showed higher values of local connectivity in the alpha band. In general, an increase of local and global graph theory parameters in the alpha band was found in the affected hemisphere. It was also demonstrated that these effects were more evident in drug-free patients than in those undergoing pharmacological therapy. The increased measures in the affected hemisphere of both functional local segregation and global integration could result from the combination of overlapping mechanisms, including reactive neuroplastic changes seeking to maintain constant integration and segregation properties. This reactive neuroplastic mechanism seeking to maintain constant integration and segregation properties seems to be more evident in the absence of antiepileptic treatment.
