To properly carry out the study, three research questions were fielded. Concepts related and relevant to the study were also reviewed, as well as empirical evidence. The study also adopted the social cognitive theory. Furthermore, the study made use of the descriptive research design and used a self-designed questionnaire to collect the data from a sample population of one hundred and eighty (180) parents/guardians. Using the simple random sampling technique, the study distributed one hundred and eighty (180) questionnaires to the respondents. The study asserted that domestic training is becoming more difficult as parents and guidance are career-driven in the modern day. Also, western culture and education, while trying to add African values to its teaching, debunks and disregards it, thus making it have no impact on the students. Finally, the study recommended that domestic training should be done at the home and community level to eliminate Western adulteration. Also, the Ministry of Culture in Bayelsa should carry out orientation, sensitization and promotion programmes on the importance of the domestic training of the Ijaw, Nembe, Ogbia and Epie people of Bayelsa state.

These are the Itsekiri, the Western Ijo, the Urhobo, the Isoko and the Ukwuani of present-day Delta State of Southern Nigeria. These case studies were used to ascertain whether, between treaty diplomacy and conquest, which was the central means employed by Great Britain in the colonisation process. The existing standard historiography of Great Britain’s expansion in Nigeria had often emphasised the theme of violence in Great Britain’s relations with indigenous peoples, leaving out totally or paying scant attention to instances of treaty-making. This dissertation challenged this long-held narrative of force as a general means of empire-building by Great Britain in Nigeria. This gap in the standard historiography engendered an understanding of the legal background of European colonialism, bringing out the influence of legal Positivism, the c...

Employing a historical and correlational approach, it attempts to juxtapose the event against the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations with a view towards arriving at a systematic analysis, objective evaluation and proper synthesis of evidence in order to establish facts and draw conclusions about this episode. The emergent result is that both parties were right in their respective actions within the context of the provisions of the VCDR. However, it is observed that they could have avoided the degeneration of their differences if tempers had been better controlled and more dialogue and contact established. The recourse to emotions, frustrations, and posturing by both s...

A survey was conducted in the state. Data were collected and analyzed using descriptive method. On the basis of empirical evidence, it is discovered that the programme has impacted on the lives of the people in the state with the provision of socio-economic infrastructures, employment and income generation, and has reduced poverty through the provision of amenities e.g. the construction of six classroom blocks with furniture at Agudama-Epie, health centre at Odoni, renovation of community hall at Swali, provision of pipe borne water at Angiama etc. Based on the above findings, we proffered a seven point recommendation which if followed-up should improve socio-economic development in Bayelsa state and in Nigeria. Keywords: Partnership, Europe, Nigeria, Socio-Economic, Development, Appraisal, Project, Bayelsa State.
Against the backdrop of high expectations from the international community on the United Nations ... more Against the backdrop of high expectations from the international community on the United Nations in the wake of the end of the Cold War and Super Power rivalries which had encumbered its performance over the years as a global institution capable of enthroning peace, this study revisits two episodes generally regarded as low points in the UN’s avowed peace purpose and efforts. Using a case study approach, the study interrogates the UN’s initiatives at Bosnia and Rwanda and concludes that in these instances, the global body failed institutionally to stop mass murders, rapes as well as destruction and desecration of cultural heritages. Indeed, it is argued strongly here that in Bosnia and Rwanda, the UN was merely, to borrow the words of Samantha Power,’ a bystander to genocide’

A literature gap exists on these groups compared to their kith and kin in the States of Bayelsa and Rivers, also in the Niger-Delta. Thus, motivated by this, the author employs a descriptive and analytical schema to present the early history of these people with regards to their origins, migrations and settlement patterns. The study also examines aspects of their social and cultural practices. At the end, it is observed that, these groups, like their other Ijo counterparts in the central and eastern delta are equally of considerable antiquity in the Niger-Delta spanning over 7,000 years, blended with a rich heritage that has been developed over time. Keywords : Ijo (Ijaw), Origins, Delta State, Antiquity, Eponymous, Migrations, Settlements

Its core concern with promoting peace and security has been supplemented, over time, by an ever-expanding economic and social agenda (Heywood, 2011:432). The UN has a very broad and substantive scope characterized by a decentralized system with several specialized agencies, organized around six principal organs, namely; the Security Council, the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and the Secretariat (Feld, Jordan and Hurwitz, 1994: 48). The Security Council is responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security, dominated by the P5, the permanent veto power members: the United States of America (USA), Russia, China, the United Kingdom and France (Heywood, 2011: 432). This study examines the extent to which the UN had met its set peace purposes-purposes which are diverse. To this end, the discourse focuses on the aspect considered the prime aim of the apex body: 'peace'. Thus, a research question such as "to what extent has the UN achieved its peace purposes" is apt. The study is therefore structured along this line; Introduction, Evolution of the UN, Mandate/Purpose, Conceptualization of Peace, UN Peace efforts and initiatives, The Balance Sheet and Conclusion.
