Communication barriers affect student-student interaction and student-patient interaction. This s... more Communication barriers affect student-student interaction and student-patient interaction. This study is aimed at exploring the social, cultural and academic spheres where medical students feel getting isolated. Questionnaire based cross-sectional survey was undertaken at Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad in the month of July, 2013. Cluster sampling technique was employed. Linguistic problems in the college greatly affected medical students. Female medical student are comparatively more affected. These problems were less common in 1st year and most common in 3rd year where clinical classes are started. There are distinct gender based problems in communicating among male and female student with as many as 37.2% reported feeling difficulty in communicating with students of opposite gender. However this difficulty in communication gradually faded on proceeding from 1st year towards final year. A field study was carried out to see the comparative efficacy of conventional insecticides viz. c... more A field study was carried out to see the comparative efficacy of conventional insecticides viz. curacron, larvin, lorsban and a newly introduced insecticide tracer (spinosad) applied @ 400 g, 380 g, 400 g and 288 g per acre respectively against Helicoverpa armigera on cotton. Tracer gave significantly better control of Helicoverpa armigera as compared to conventional insecticides.

Background: Right career choice by medical students has an imperative role in order to crave out... more Background: Right career choice by medical students has an imperative role in order to crave out optimum benefit from the five year laborious study of MBBS. Methods: A Cross-sectional survey was conducted at Ayub Medical College, Abbottabad. Sample size was set at 300. Random sampling technique was used. Self-administered questionnaire was administered. Data was analysed using SPSS. Results: A total of 211 medical students responded to the questionnaire with 49.76% males (n=105) and 106 females (50.24%). 57.1% reported clinical career as their preferred future choice. 18.86% female compared to 12.38% male reported being indecisive about their future. 60.75% students from rural areas compared to 54.19% from urban background were aspiring for clinical careers. 19.08% students from urban areas compared to 10.12% from rural areas were indecisive. Conclusion: There is a lesser inclination of students towards non-clinical careers. A number of students are indecisive about their fut...
