Tourism plays a major role in many countries in terms of its contribution to economic and social development, creating more job opportunities and increasing the recovery of the country's economy. Similarly, rural tourism can be a driving force for many rural economies through its contribution to strengthening the economy in rural areas, improving living standards, achieving economic, social, environmental, cultural and urban development, reducing rural migration, and preserving the character of traditional rural life, traditional agricultural heritage and urban heritage. For traditional rural housing, the severity of these problems varies from one country to another according to the degree of development in the country, as it constitutes a general characteristic of the countryside. This has prompted many countries around the world to encourage non-agricultural activities, especially tourism, in the hope of improving the situation of rural areas, creating stability and encouraging the preservation of traditional rural activities such as activities (agricultural, animal, heritage, cultural, social, handicrafts and related industries). (in the agricultural and livestock sector) in order to preserve the traditional rural life and the urban heritage of the traditional rural dwelling that is friendly to the surrounding environment, since most of the materials used in the building are from the elements of the surrounding environment in a sustainable manner.
In the countryside of Dohuk Governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, where the rural areas’ share of development plans was weak, and were previously subjected to instability due to the security conditions of the governorate’s villages and the lack of basic services that led to rural migration to urban areas, in addition to the threat of the traditional rural character to disappear, due to the lack of interest in it and the lack of To basic services and infrastructure and the weakness of the agricultural and livestock sector due to neglect and lack of marketing opportunities and canning factories for their products.
It is likely that rural tourism will have an active role in solving the problems of the Kurdish countryside in the governorate of Dohuk in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, and to provide the basic qualifications and ingredients for the success of rural tourism in its various applications and branches in terms of (the traditional, folklore and heritage character of rural life in the countryside of Dohuk governorate, the picturesque natural environment, the appropriate climate and the success of Agriculture of all kinds and the availability of a suitable agricultural and wild vegetation, in addition to the high demand of urban residents to stay away from the hustle and bustle of urban life and enjoy the atmosphere of the countryside distinguished by the calmness of the environment, the purity of the air and the beauty of nature, and the enjoyment of directly purchasing fresh agricultural, folk and animal products, and other qualifications and tourism components) Especially that rural tourism seeks to raise the welfare of the rural population by providing additional financial returns, limiting rural migration, providing basic services to the countryside, continuing to engage in agricultural activity, and preserving the rural urban, cultural, social, environmental, folklore and traditional agricultural heritage, which in turn leads to creating stability, survival and thinking. In developing and sustaining the traditional rural dwelling and using it as a distinctive attraction for tourists, in addition to the agricultural, environmental, cultural, social and heritage attractions for the residents of the village
