We are reporting a two-year and nine-month-old boy who had a coronavirus disease (COVID) infection and then presented with a refusal to walk. By careful historytaking, he was found to have a restricted diet, speech delay, and gum bleeding suggestive of scurvy, which was confirmed by extremely low levels of ascorbic acid. In this case, the diagnosis of scurvy was established before establishing the diagnosis of neurodevelopmental delay. Treatment with ascorbic acid resulted in a remarkable improvement in his symptoms. This case highlights the importance of collecting a thorough history, connecting exam findings to the history, and including scurvy in differential diagnoses for the presentation of inability to bear weight.

The cyclic stress response revealed combinations of cyclic hardening, saturation and cyclic softening, depending on the applied cyclic total strain amplitude. Total strain amplitudes higher than 8x10-3 result in a pronounced secondary hardening up to fracture. In the case of metastable austenitic steels, at higher strain amplitudes the secondary hardening is an indicator for the austenitic-martensitic transformation. The deformation-induced α'-martensite content was detected using a nondestructive magnetic measuring technique (feritscope). The microstructure was investigated for different total strain amplitudes applying optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It could be observed that with an increasing total strain amplitude the deformation band density increased considerably.

It focuses on students learning the concepts of peace at the school level. These concepts can include conflict resolution, conflict transformation, and values of dialogue, tolerance, respect, and inclusivity. However, there is inadequate literature on religious concepts of peace education, especially from an Islamic perspective. Islam is a religion followed by a population of more than one billion around the world. In major religious conflicts in the contemporary world, Muslims are represented as conservative, radical, and extremist in their thoughts and actions. This representation of Muslims embodies their religion as devoid of peace education. This study analyses the Qur’anic scriptures of peace learning. These scriptures have been interpreted in the textbook ‘Islam and Peace Education,’ which is the initiative for madrasa—Islamic religious schools—curricula in Pakistan. The initiative was introduced by the Peace and Education Foundation, Pakistan. The study takes evidence from field interviews with the staff of the Peace and Education Foundation together with the contents of the peace textbook. The findings of this chapter suggest that the Muslim holy book, the Qur’an, fosters social diversity, critical thinking, conflict resolution, religious freedom, anti-racism, and nonviolent communication through the interpretation of Quranic texts.

The supply chain for maritime containers has faced considerable obstacles as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Numerous factors, such as port closures, travel restrictions, and a decreased workforce, have impacted the supply chain. The risk of cargo theft, piracy, and other security events has increased as a result of these difficulties. Therefore, it is essential to look at the risk variables that may affect the security of the marine container supply chain during the pandemic. This research paper highlights those risks through the following three indexes: the likelihood index (LI), severity index (SI), and average risk index (ARI) by analyzing 64 risk factors that were prepared and designed by incorporating the Delphi expert survey technique to prepare a systematic questionnaire. The article addresses worries over the COVID-19 pandemic’s effects on international supply network...

Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), the standard surgical therapy for the treatment of bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is also reported to cause sexual dysfunction as well. It is known that TURP may cause retrograde ejaculation, but its effect on erectile function is still controversial. Objective: To determine the mean change of transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) on erectile function in patients of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in a tertiary care hospital.

This study focused on identifying and characterising novel polysaccharides isolated from the common cockle (Cerastoderma edule) with antiproliferative activity, using the cetylpyridinium chloride precipitation method. Marine polysaccharides have exhibited in-vitro potent antiproliferative activity, leading to induced apoptotic cellular death in three cancer cell lines, which are chronic myelogenous leukaemia, relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and mesothelioma of the pleural cavity with asbestos exposure. Structural analysis has confirmed the presence of glycosaminoglycan-like polysaccharides in cockle extracts with potent antiproliferative activity, wh...

As Criminal Justice System provides a mechanism of social control (Seigel, 2005), therefore, Probation system was introduced in criminal justice with the intent of reforming offenders (Ghosh, 2006) through correctional treatment in the community (Aulakh & Khan, 2005). Hence Probation System is a correctional process (Srivastava, 1970) which allows for conditional and revocable release of convicts in the community (Macionis, 1999) under the supervision of a probation officer (Ellsworth, 1996). Probation officer gives advice to the probationer on how to live a law-abiding lifestyle (Healy & O' Donnell, 2008). According to Encyclopedia of Britannica (2002), the probation process in criminal justice system for an adult begins with a pre-sentence investigation of t...

We aim to evaluate the bone mineral density (BMD) by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) and ascertain osteoporosis/osteopenia frequency in patients with β-thalassemia major. Methodology: In this cross-sectional study, 36 adolescent patients with β-thalassemia major were enrolled from June 2015 to March 2017. BMD was measured in the anteroposterior lumbar spine (L1-L4) and femoral neck by DEXA. For the biochemical estimations, blood and urine samples were obtained and analyzed. The results of a bone density test were presented as T and Z scores. Results: There were 20 male and 16 female patients with a mean age of 21.33 ± 3.7 years. The mean bone mineral content (BMC) was 20.10 ± 6.0 gm, and the mean BMD was 0.65 ± 0.07 gm/cm2. The mean T score was -3.17 ± 1.04, and the Z score was -3.06 ± 1.06. All patients had low BMD, as de...
