Focusing on the text book and teaching speaking by asking students tomemorize vocabularies in the... more Focusing on the text book and teaching speaking by asking students tomemorize vocabularies in the classroom were the main reason for students getting difficulties to improve speaking ability. The main goal of the research was to perceive the impact of Asian Parliamentary Debate simulation in improving students’ speaking ability. This research employed a quasi-experimental design where the sample chosen was 79 of the second-year students at SMAN 2 Parepare. The data gathered using interview test which distributed before and after the research treatment and analyzed using quantitative analysis. The result indicated that there was a significant improvement on students’ speaking score. In conclusion, teaching speaking through the implementation of Asian Parliamentary debate simulation boosted students’ speaking ability..

This study was conducted to know whether or not the acculturation of English greeting patterns in... more This study was conducted to know whether or not the acculturation of English greeting patterns influences the Bugis speech community in producing greetings in Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare. The use of greetings in the Bugis speech community daily life would like to be proven to increase the knowledge about the acculturation of English greetings patterns. The researcher used survey research by using questionnaires as a research instrument. The sample of this research consisted of 67 students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare fromthe Bugis speech community that lives in the Ajatappareng region in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The result shows that the acculturation of greetings among the Bugis speech community through the use of the English/Indonesian/local greetings is not happening. Where the mean score was categorized as fair classification. Most of the students were not active in learning English language and also hard to understand learning material. Consequently, the students’ vocabulary mastery was low. The objective was to find out wheter the use of hyponymy game able to improve the vocabulay mastery of the students. The researcher applied quasi-experimental method, with two-group pre-test post-test design. The test form was vocabulary test that related to describtive text which consisted of 25 items. The samples was chosen by using random sampling technique which consisted of 60 students of the Tenth Grade Students of SMK Negeri 3 Parepare. This concept is in line with the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation number 23 in 2015, about the literacy movements to build a good character. However, students sometimes could not achieve it because the student cannot comprehend the reading material well. Besides, most students seem complicated to understand an English text and lazy to find the appropriate strategy to elaborate on their reading comprehension in rural living areas.
