Initially, a total of Two Hundred and Forty (240) birds-Day Old Chicks-were fed on the same commercially based starter ration under the same environmental condition for three consecutive weeks to serve as a brooding period. During this phase, the birds were randomly divided into four (4) treatments with each treatment further divided into 4 replications by Complete Randomised Design (CRD) of Fifteen (15) birds per replica. The treatments were labelled as T₁ (VF), T₂ (HF), T₃ (TF) and T₄ (Locally Formulated Feed). Proximate analyses of all the four feeds were run to determine the relative composition of parameters such as carbohydrate, crude fibre, Lipid, protein, etc. The average mean weight of the birds at the commencement of the study was ±430g as at the 3 weeks of brooding period. Consequently, the weight gain (g) were taken weekly and recorded for five consecutive. The result of the study indicates that the average weight gain in kilogramme (Kg) for T₁, T₂, T₃ and T₄ were 1.92, 1.69, 1.61 and 1.44 respectively. However the Feed cost in Naira (₦) per kg gain was 594.00, 505.92, 526.40 and 367.5 correspondingly for T₁, T₂, T₃ and T₄. This clearly indicates that although the three commercially based feeds are indisputably higher in terms of weight gain but their cost per kilogramme (Kg) is also on the escalation as compared with the Locally Formulated Feed whose cost per Kilogramme (Kg) is substantially lower even though it is also comparably lesser in terms of weight gain.
The geophysical technique of Electrical Resistivity in mineral rocks investigation has been found... more The geophysical technique of Electrical Resistivity in mineral rocks investigation has been found to be one of the very effective and convenient methods. It was therefore applied using Schlumberger configuration to investigate the location, depth and the economic viability of Feldspar mineral deposits at the study location in Mokwa, Niger State, Nigeria. This research is aimed at determining the location and economic viability of Feldspar deposits in Mokwa that can serve as Industrial fillers or induce the development and sustainability of both small and medium scale paint, plastic, rubber and adhesive Industries within and outside the study area. 30 Vertical Electrical Soundings (VES) were acquired in 6 profiles using ABEM SAS 4000 Terrameter with 50 m spacing in between each profiles. The results revealed that Profile 1 VES point 5, profile 2 VES point 2, profile 4 VES point 4 and profile 5 VES point 5 are underlined with rocks of Low electrical resistivity values which implied possible Feldspar deposits. The highest Feldspar Deposits with average thickness of 7.87 m was discovered in profile 1, while profile 4 exhibited the lowest deposits with thickness of 2.50 m. On the average, the depths of these minerals rocks from the surface fell in the interval of 0.06 m to 8.00 m. However, the discovered feldspar deposits are not of much economically viable for Industrial filler exploration capable of influencing any Industrial development in either small or medium scale capacity.

The data were acquired with Schlumberger configuration at stations chosen across the study area. The acquired data were interpreted with IPI2WIN iterative computer software. The interpreted results suggest three geo-electric layers. Their equivalent geologic/lithological units suggest weathered and fractured basement as the aquiferous layers along the three profiles investigated within the study area. Suitable sites for construction of boreholes were outlined based on the aquifer thickness range of the aquiferous layers. The VES 4 & 5 along the first Profile was the most probable and viable site with the highest aquiferous thickness of 19.21 m, followed by the third profile with aquifer thickness of 11.88 and the least was profile 2 with aquifer thickness of 11.60 m. profile 1, VES point 4 or 5 was therefore recommended for top priority site when drilling the borehole.

The probe was conducted at five profiles, within which 25 Vertical Electrical Soundings (VES) were carried out. The Terrameter SAS 4000 for which the maximum current electrode spacing AB/2 was 100 m and the Schlumberger array were adopted for the soundings. The results from the computer modelling software (IP2WIN) revealed the occurrence of limestone deposits in all the five probed profile locations. This was inferred from the exhibited low resistivity and chargeability values which characterised all the profiles in their first and second geoelectric layers. The characterised low resistivity and chargeability values ranged respectively from 43 to 155 Ωm and 1.12 to 155 msec, while the thickness range was from 20.69 to 86.53 m. These two geophysical approaches (Electrical Resistivity and Induced Polarization) showed a good degree of correlation in the resistivity and chargeability values of the limestone and their varying quantities. This research work estimated the occurrence of vast limestone deposits of the magnitude 2.0 x 10 6 t which can be of very much economic importance in domestic, mining and industrial purposes. More detailed integrated geological, geophysical studies and drillholes to cover the study area and even with further extension beyond the probed area for better understanding of the economic potential of the study area were recommended.
Testing of optical fiber-based sensors using the imperfection method to detect alcohol contents. ... more Testing of optical fiber-based sensors using the imperfection method to detect alcohol contents. The sample results from mixing alcohol and distilled water to produce eight samples with an alcohol content level from 0% to 70%. The greater alcohol content causes the output power of the sensor to decrease due to the increase in the refractive index of alcohol content around the sensor. An increase in the refractive index of alcohol content causes power losses to increase, resulting in lost light intensity being transmitted in optical fiber-based sensors. Power losses are increasing to produce the best characteristics of the sensor. The best sensor is shown in the Gamma configuration at imperfection 3 with a sensitivity value of 0.346 µW/%. The imperfection method is suitable for determining the characteristics of optical fiber-based alcohol detection sensors because it has a high sensitivity.

Online survey of a cross-sectional sample of 1,000 women. United States, March 2013. Women aged 18-40 years. None. Knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding selected topics in reproductive health. Forty percent of women across all age groups expressed concerns about their ability to conceive. Yet one-third of women were unaware of adverse implications of sexually transmitted infections, obesity, or irregular menses for procreative success, and one-fifth were unaware of the effects of aging. Approximately 40% were unfamiliar with the ovulatory cycle. Overall, younger women (18-24 years) demonstrated less knowledge regarding conception, fertility, and ovulation, whereas older women tended to believe in common myths and misconceptions. Respondents in all age groups identified women's health care providers (75%) and Web sites (40%) as top sources of reproductive health-related information; however, engagement with providers on specific factors affecting fertility is sparse. Knowledge regarding ovulation, fertility, and conception is limited among this sample of reproductive-age US women. Future initiatives should prioritize improved provider engagement and accurate information dissemination in Web-based venues.

As part of the drive for colonialism was quest for natural resources and cheap labour, so was the drive for the discovery of oil in Nigeria. Discovery of marketable oil was made in the late 50s, the finding that came with attendant consequences on the environment. The main consequence is oil spillage that has been going on for decades. The local people were not only denied their traditional means of livelihood but also not given adequate compensation. This study aims to highlight how oil spillage and oil theft has been degrading the Niger Delta environment. The study adopted a quantitative method to seek the views of some Nigerians on how long do they think the environmental degradation has been going on in the Niger Delta, and how serious or un-serious are the multinational oil companies in cleaning the environment.
