The objective of this research is to identify (a) benefits and challenges of home gardens as community empowerment-based edible landscape, and (b) the socio-cultural, economic, and environmental factors in the utilization of home gardens in Tomohon, Denpasar and Solo. The researchers conduct literature reviews and observation for one month. The benefits of a home garden are a source of various food and traditional medicine, a place of worship, supporting conservation, ameliorating the microclimate, improve health, education, recreational and aesthetic functions, strengthen social status, increase income and ties. The challenges are to overcome constraints such as (a) lack of knowledge, skill, advisory services, (b) limited access to farming inputs, and so on; and to take advantage of opportunities such as easy access, easy control of composition, products quality and quantity, and so on. Some strategies are proposed. Socio-cultural, economic and environmental factors that influence the home garden are grouped as internal factors (i.e. size, owner’s economic condition, perception, knowledge, skill, hobby, preference and consumption pattern, allocated time and energy) and external factors (i.e. regulation, culture and agreement, and environmental conditions).

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is a pollutant produced by vehicles which causes air pollution. The increase in vehicle demand causes an increase in CO2 emissions, which is the cause of global warming. But vehicles with fossil fuels are still a necessity for community mobilization. Because most vehicles used today are fossil fuel vehicles, the measurement of the efficiency of fossil fuel use is very important. The measure used to see the efficiency of fuel use by vehicles is Vehicle Kilometer Traveled (VKT). By using mobilev software, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from fossil fuel vehicles can be predicted. CO2 emissions that occur in an industrial area are caused by several types of motor vehicles, namely motorcycles, LDV and HDV cars. In the case of the tourism industry, creating competitive advantage could be done by providing an extraordinary experience which is the ultimate goal for travel leading to customer satisfaction and customer loyalty. This paper aims at exploring and developing a model of tourism value chain activities experience by tourist for competitive advantage creation. Tourism value chain activities model consists of three stages whereby each stage has its own type of measurement. The first stage covers the pre-trip experience, in this stage, the detailed information prior to departure will be discussed. Next stage is the trip experience, which are the tourism activities involved during the visit and experienced during the trip. Lastly the post-trip experience, whereby on this stage the output of the tourism value chain activities will be measured. The proposed measurement for this stage will be an evaluation of tourist satisfaction and tourist loyalty in order to create a competitive advantage. Future studies are expected in implementing these tourism value chain activities in specific tourism destinations (country) to measure the tourism experience.
