However, it is not clear if researchers whose work appears in international databases are representative of scientists in the developing world as a whole, or whether they differ in terms of important social characteristics. A search of international databases on agriculture and natural resource management in Ghana, Kenya, and Kerala was used to compile a bibliography that could be compared with results from a face-to-face survey of researchers. Results indicate that many of the characteristics of those who are internationally visible differ from the wider population of scientists. The implication is that the "view from afar" based exclusively on information drawn from international databases does not accurately reflect the population of researchers or domestic productivity in less developed countries.

The "inclusionary" perspective represents these public digital spaces as the most important source of connectivity and inclusion for the global population. The "transitional" perspective represents Internet cafés as a dying business whose obituary is long overdue. This study describes a search for two dozen Internet cafés in Ghana, based on establishments first identified in 2003, accompanied by interviews with patrons and café attendants. Our initial exploration supported the transitional prediction that cafés would be shuttered or replaced by traditional businesses. However, an expanded search led us to the conclusion that "walking distance" replacements for all cafés remained available, supporting the inclusionary view. Qualitative interviews revealed the shift of cybers to business services and their continued importance as online spaces for disadvantaged populations.

The book’s second and third chapters focus on the gender roles that are created and affirmed through noodling, a predominantly male subculture. The fourth chapter examines in greater detail the political aspect of handfishing, an illegal practice in Missouri since 1919 outside of two trial seasons in 2005 and 2006 (p. 75). In particular, Grigsby discusses the cultural implications of the practice’s legal status, such as how groups of noodlers (due to the danger and physical demands of the practice) operate covertly and decide which handfishers to let into their confidence and join their fishing trips. The final chapter reflects on the meaning of noodling to the communities in which it is practiced and how noodling serves as a means for conveying cultural norms and group identity. Noodlers in Missouri is an engrossing read even for those completely unacquainted with the book’s subject. While the ethnography is well-focused on its topic, it manages to engage with larger societal and political frameworks in addition to being intrinsically interesting. Grigsby’s work would be of particular use to those engaged in rural sociology, ethnographic methods, gender, and family issues.

So let's get some definitions out of the way first. Cryptology is the study of codes, both creating and solving them. Cryptography is the art of creating codes. Cryptanalysis is the art of surreptitiously revealing the contents of coded messages, breaking codes, that were not intended for you as a recipient.. Secondly, there are nomenclators and enciphers. Nomenclators are letters or numbers that represent words or phrases, like 103A means "meet me at 4PM". Ciphers are alphabetical letters or numbers that are encrypted using some sequential coding process and a key. For this essay, we will refer to both as codes. Also, enciphered, encrypted and encoded mean the same thing….Additionally, there is plain text. This is the original message that is readable and understandable, uncoded or unencrypted. Once it goes through the coding process and is encrypted, the output is readable but not understandable. There are a bunch of other terms like steganography, homophones, polyphones, digraphs, bigrams, and polygrams, but they are just variations of coding and decoding techniques.
