Records of 1056 endodontically treated teeth from patients who visited the department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu were obtained. Intra-oral periapical radiographs of all treated teeth were assessed in terms of canal obturation quality (adequate length and density). Fifty-one percent of the teeth fulfilled the criteria of an acceptable root canal filling. Adequate length and density was found in 78% and 24% of teeth, respectively. Our findings underline the need to improve the quality of endodontic health care being provided to the average patient in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The objective of this study was to correlate the clinical parameters (location, clinical presentation and TNM staging) of oral malignant tumors that can be associated with a potential of bone invasion and determine the accuracy of clinical examination to predict bone involvement, using computed tomography (CT). Twenty five patients, with oral malignant tumors were submitted to clinical and CT examinations. CT was considered the standard parameter to evaluate the presence of bone involvement. Clinical assessment of location, presentation form and TNM staging of the tumors were then compared to the CT findings in predicting bone involvement. Bone involvement was observed in 68% of the cases. It was predicted that tumors located in the retromolar trigone and hard palate, with a clinical aspect of infiltrative ulcer or nodule and classified in stage IV had a high potential to cause bone involvement. The clinical examination assessment of these tumors showed to be a valuable tool to predict bone invasion, with high sensitivity (82%) and specificity (87.5%), based on the results found in the CT images. No statistical significance was found between the CT and clinical examinations regarding bone involvement. The identification of some clinical parameters such as location, clinical presentation, and TNM stage, associated with a detailed clinical examination, was considered a valuable tool for the assessment of bone destruction by oral malignant tumors.

To evaluate the reliability of using middle phalanx for third finger (MP3) & mandibular second molar (37) as indicators of skeletal age by relating their ossification/calcification stages to those of the cervical vertebrae (CV). 2. To determine whether any significant difference exists between the sexes when MP3, 37 & CV are used as maturity indicators. Materials and Method: 20 children (10 girls and 10 boys) between 8-16 years of age were included and divided into two groups each (8-11 & 12-16 yrs). All the children were subjected to: Lateral cephalogram, IOPA 37, Digital radiograph of the MP3 region. Staging was done according to different methods and assessed by three examiners. The inter-and intra-examiner variability were determined by the Wilcoxon signed rank test and the Kruskal-Wallis test and were found to be non-significant. Examiner A was selected to evaluate all radiographs as she showed the least intraexaminer variability. Statistical Analysis: Performed using SP...

Materials and methods: A pre-tested, self-administered cross-sectional survey containing 16 questions about various aspects of Hepatitis B was conducted among 354 subjects. Statistical analysis: Descriptive statistics were carried out and statistical tools such as Chi-square test and contingency coefficient (CC) were employed. A P-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. All P-values were two tailed. Results: The response rate was 100% (n=354). However, notable suppression of postoperative endodontic pain still remains an unresolved conundrum. Aim: To compare the effect of single dose of 100 mg of aceclofenac, 10 mg of ketorolac and a combination of 50 mg tramadol with 75 mg diclofenac, as a pretreatment analgesic for the management of postoperative endodontic pain in patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Materials and Methods: Thirty emergency patients with moderate to severe pain, diagnosed with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis were randomly allocated (1:1:1) to any of the three groups; aceclofenac, ketorolac, or tramadol + diclofenac. Medications were administered 30 min before beginning of the endodontic treatment. Patients recorded pain intensity on 10 cm visual analog scale (VAS) after treatment, for upto 24 h. Results: At 24 h, mean ± standard ...

The oral variant of this condition is even more uncommon. Here we present a case of herpes-associated EM affecting the oral cavity where the skin lesions, which were considered the “sine qua non” for EM diagnosis, were absent. The case was promptly and precisely diagnosed and treated using a standardized regime of systemic corticosteroid therapy with supportive care to which he responded well and continues to be disease-free at 1 year follow-up.

Aim: The purpose of this study was to compare the working length determination was done using three methods, namely, conventional radiography, radiovisiography (RVG) and a 3 rd -generation apex locator (Root ZX). Materials and Methods: Forty non-carious single rooted human teeth were selected, and each tooth was subjected to all the three methods of working length determination. This was then compared with the actual working length measured histologically after grinding the teeth buccolingually. Results: Absolute deviations for apex locator was found to be significantly smaller than the corresponding mean of RVG ( P = 0.013126) but very significant smaller from the corresponding mean of radio graph (P = 0.001880). Conclusion: Electronic apex locator was found to be the most accurat...

Materials and Method: Fifty adult human single rooted teeth intended for extraction with mature apices and without resorptive defects were selected. Endodontic access was prepared, the root canal orifices were enlarged by Gates Glidden drill and the pulp was then extirpated. A 4th generation electronic apex locator Elements diagnostic Unit (Sybron Endo) was used as one of the devices to measure the working length along with radiographs which were taken on conventional E – speed film and the DDR’s intraoral sensor using paralleling technique & working length was determined by Ingles method. After extraction of the teeth, the external part of the apical 3rd of the root was grounded to expose the apical constriction. File was introduced through the access cavity and the stop...

Aim: To evaluate the self-perceived competence of contemporary restorative practices of dental students in North India. Materials and Methods: 232 dental students from 4 colleges in North India completed a survey comprising 11 polar questions about their perception of contemporary restorative dental practice and their curriculum update regarding the same. Further, the collected data was tabulated and finally extracted data was subjected to descriptive analysis using Chi-square test. Results: All 11 questions showed statistically significant responses. Only 15.5% of students thought that the current curriculum of restorative dentistry was adequate. Moreover, only 20.7% of the respondents were confident about using rubber dam for isolation. About 93.1% felt that the quality of their composite restorations was not at par with those seen on social media. A clear majority of 91.4% felt that the maximum uploads of restorative dentistry involved composite restorations. A huge number of 91.45% did not use rubber dam for isolation in composite restorations. 79.3% students felt that the current curriculum is not teaching them about the various instruments, and developing their skills about instrumentation and operative procedures of composite restorations matching the trending composite practices. Conclusion: Considering the results of this study as the student's mandate will help shape the guidelines for possibly a new curriculum of conservative dentistry in India.

Methods and Materials: A total number of 210 freshly extracted human maxillary and mandibular first molars were selected and distributed between three groups. Three different systems of rotary NiTi instruments, namely ProFile (PF), RaCe (RC) and Twisted File (TF), were used to prepare the canals using crown-down technique. All instruments were evaluated by means of SEM with 500× and 1500× magnifications, at four different stages; before use, after preparation of 7 and 14 canals and after instrument separation. Photomicrographs were also taken. The data was analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test and the level of significance was set at 0.001. It was found that H (HAT matrix) was 15.316 with 2 degrees of freedom. Moreover the various groups were compared using the Student...
