We explore the entrepreneurial growth behavior in the context of family farm firms by focusing on the role of pluriactivity. By integrating the literature of family business strategies, EO, and growth intentions, this study of 1618 Finnish family farms seeks to understand the idea of pluriactivity as a strategic orientation of family farm firms leading towards the growth and renewal of their prevailing and future domains. Our study revealed that pluriactivity is associated with growth-orientation and perceived strengths of the family farm firms. We identified four types of growth groups (Established, Growth-Driven, Experimenters, Stand-Stills) and found differences in their pluriactive orientation. We suggest that pluriactivity as a strategic orientation affects the growth-intention of the family entrepreneurs and the business renewal processes of the family farm firms. Entrepreneur...

Entrepreneurs with the higher level of education were more likely to maintain the current production line, plan pluriactive businesses and consider wage income and cooperation more important than others. Similarly, entrepreneurs with lower level of education experienced more often problems to cope with current and future farm work with existing resources. To conclude, spouses' education seems to influence farm's choices and quality of life. Implications for human capital theory and entrepreneurship education emerged.

Koulutuksen arviointineuvosto organisoi esiopetuksen arviointihankkeen. We examine what kinds of dependencies exist in the entrepreneur-municipality relationships and what kind of consequences these dependencies have on social service businesses run by entrepreneurs. Basing on the social service entrepreneurs experience, our findings suggest that while the cooperation with the municipality represents a prerequisite for success, their business represent only one alternative for the renewal of social service structures from the point of view of municipalities. In addition, the existence of legally enforced supervisory duties incorporates a considerable amount of power that influences areas of the entrepreneur-municipality relationships and interaction other than just those defined by the supervisory and regulatory rights.

Using our 2012 survey data from farm firms in Finland, we address the limited focus on active entrepreneurs and their intentions to develop ongoing income-generating, off-farm related business activities. We found that attitudinal proxy antecedents such as innovation, cooperation and growth for pluriactivity differ for active and non-active entrepreneurs and with respect to the entrepreneurs' age and production line and innovation behaviour.

In the conceptual study the authors propose a framework for integrating the various theories of education expertise. To achieve this integration, the researchers draw on theories from the fields of entrepreneurship, knowledge and learning, and capabilities and resources. The authors examine the theories from three perspectives: individual, cooperative and organizational. The study offers a model of effectuate education expertise and suggests new paths for entrepreneurship research. The practical implications suggest that management of effectuate education expertise is of co-creation needed in education business contexts.

(Jyväskylä Studies in Business and Economics ISSN 1457-1986; 22) ISBN 951-39-1358-9 Finnish Summary Diss. This study examines inter-firm co-operation capability both conceptually and empirically. The central questions to be examined in this study are as follows: 1) What is inter-firm cooperation capability?, 2) How can it be described by using the concepts of networking and inter-firm co-operation?, 3) What has been the role of learning, trust and commitment in the inter-firm co-operation and networking process? The conceptual analysis rests mainly on the theories of interorganisational studies (network approach) and education. The multiplicity and heterogeneity of the phenomenon led quickly to the conclusion that no one-dimensional approach alone would be adequate to describe the inter-firm co-operation capability in the context...

As an approach it is a new way of thinking of entrepreneurship and insight into acting as an entrepreneur and entrepreneuring in modern society. By focusing on opportunity and effectuation processes as well as ambidexterity we found several areas where these two research streams could interact and generate new research directions. As a result of our study we propose a paradigm shift towards a more temporal-based view on entrepreneurship to develop the idea of pop-up entrepreneurship as promising field of entrepreneurship research.
